Position Type: Elementary School Teaching/Elementary Teacher Date Posted: 2/2/2026 Location: Tom Daniels Elementary School JOB DESCRIPTION The Reading Specialist provides students identified with dyslexia and other related learning difficulties an individualized, intensive, multisensory, phonetic instructional program that includes a variety of writing, spelling, and reading components. Reading Specialist works with administrators, classroom teachers, campus support staff and central office instructional and support staff to plan and implement quality reading instruction as well as interventions for students in need of support. The Reading Specialist also provides reading and language arts staff development on the campus, evaluates students to determine reading strengths and weaknesses, and plans and implements programming for parent involvement and family reading. QUALIFICATION Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate Valid Special Education teaching certificate Science of Teaching Reading Professional Reading Specialist Certification (preferred) Dyslexia Training experience (preferred) - (Reading by Design, Take Flight, Bridges, or Neuhaus) Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of reading, writing, and spelling instructional strategies Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation Ability to assess students for dyslexia Ability to analyze, interpret, and use student data Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills EXPERIENCE Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience RESPONSIBILITIES Instructional Strategies 1. Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop an IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned. 2. Provide support services for students experiencing reading difficulties. 3. Evaluate students for strengths and weaknesses in reading/language arts. 4. Participate in development of RtI, 504, and ARD accommodation and modification plans. 5. Participate in Student Assistance Team meetings with teachers and administration. 6. Test students for dyslexia using KTEA-3, CTOPP-2, and GORT-5 and provide appropriate instructional interventions for identified students. 7. Plan, demonstrate, co-teach, and coach with classroom teachers. 8. Meet with grade level teams to assist in implementation of reading/language arts curriculum. 9. Serve as a resource for professional materials and instructional strategies/materials. 10. Present staff development sessions for grade level teams and campus staff. 11. Assist administration in identifying campus weaknesses in reading/language arts. 12. Assist teachers in disaggregating and analyzing data from Curriculum Diagnostic Benchmarks. 13. Assist teachers in developing curriculum-based assessments and instruction. 14. Participate in position-related professional development. 15. Provide support for family reading opportunities/other campus reading initiatives. 16. Work closely with parents to assist students with reading difficulties. 17. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations. Student Growth and Development 18. Conduct assessments and ongoing progress monitoring of student achievement and use results to plan instructional activities. 19. Consult district and outside resource individuals regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students. 20. Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences. Other 21. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members. 22. Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for dyslexia specialist. 23. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. 24. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required. 25. Perform other duties as suggested by campus principal and district instructional specialist for elementary reading/language arts. 26. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. SALARY The salary for the above position will be based on the salary schedule currently in effect by Board Policy and Administrative Regulations. $54,000 - $78,100 187 WORKDAYS
