Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC (Rochambeau), has an opening for a Secondary School Teacher - English Literature - Full Time for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. Location: Bethesda, MD Reports to: Secondary School Director Job Type: Full-time; Exempt; Faculty Association Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable Salary Information: The salary range is $51,908-$110,424 per the Faculty CBA Salary Scale. Teachers will be compensated according to the highest category to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the years of applicable experience provided. For example, a teacher with a Bachelor's degree and a teaching credential with 5 years of experience will have a base salary of $57,969.77 per year. A teacher with a Master's degree and teaching certification with 5 years of experience will have a base salary of $61,566.29 per year. A teacher with a PhD and 5 years of teaching experience will have a base salary of $65,461.50 per year. Benefits: In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for: paid time off, paid holidays, and health and retirement benefits enrollment, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 403(b) plan. POSITION SUMMARY The Secondary School Teacher of English Literature is responsible for developing students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and fostering communication skills. This teacher will work with Secondary School (Middle & High School) students to develop an appreciation for literature, motivate students to read widely, and promote critical assessment of reading materials. The age and level of students requires someone with experience differentiating instruction across multiple grade levels and English language proficiencies. This position requires demonstrating the competencies and behaviors needed to improve student preparedness and academic mastery and to support the core values, vision, and mission of Rochambeau. Provide for the education of students in their assigned class(es) and deliver the courses/subjects assigned by the Secondary School Director Implement curriculum as required by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP and MYP), as well as Rochambeau's educational priorities, and integrate the objectives and competencies into the lesson plans Maintain regular interaction and professional communication with parents concerning classroom activities and student progress, including through newsletters, emails, quarterly report cards, and, if necessary, individual letters or meetings. Be available for all parent-teacher meetings Create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters the intellectual, social, and emotional development of all students Prepare students for all examinations, including the French Baccalaureate and the IBDP, while aiming for academic excellence Develop, adapt, and select pedagogical material and assessments to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with specific needs Monitor and evaluate student progress, keep accurate records, and prepare detailed quarterly reports Stay current with educational trends and best practices in pedagogy and school management Collaborate with colleagues to align program content and assessments across classes and curricula Integrate educational technologies and innovative teaching methods to enhance student engagement Supervise students in various school settings and maintain a safe and respectful learning environment Actively participate in parent-teacher meetings, faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events Maintain a professional attitude and appearance and demonstrate conscientious and ethical behavior during interactions with students, parents, community agencies, and colleagues Support and contribute to the school's bilingual and multicultural environment, respecting Rochambeau's vision, mission, and values Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position, as assigned by the Secondary School Principal and/or their delegates QUALIFICATIONSMinimum Requirements: Possess a four-year post-secondary degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in a related field (Education, English, Literature, etc.) from an accredited college or university Native English fluency required Demonstrate exceptional commitment to and ability to engage students and help them develop their social, creative, and academic skills Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills. Proven ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, support staff, parents, and community members Ability to recognize and respond to the individual and cultural differences of students and to use diverse teaching methods that promote academic success and build an equitable classroom community Ability to enforce high standards for student behavior Excellent organization and time management skills Ability to use innovative, active teaching methods, and solve everyday problems using initiative, flexibility, and creativity Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance at work Computer and technological literacy Three Professional References (name, position, contact number and email) listed on your CV/resume Preferred Qualifications: Experience at an international or IB school Bilingual French proficiency strongly preferred Experience differentiating instruction for native and non-native English language learners. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This position primarily operates in a school environment. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, walking, or standing, extensive use of computers and other office equipment, and occasional lifting or moving of equipment up to 25 pounds.
