Generator Mechanic- Level 1JOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 12/16/2025 POSTING NUMBER: 051702 LOCATION: Maintenance Department - 930 POSITION TITLE: Generator Mechanic- Level 1 JOB DESCRIPTION: Perform minor mechanical repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of District generators. Work on projects assigned, follow established procedures. DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspect service and repair all generators as needed or on scheduled intervals. Maintain complete set of preventative maintenance records on all generators. Record time (labor) and material on work orders. Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. Minimal work on Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) such as identifying gear position from the outside. Follow established safety procedures such as securing assistance from the licensed electrician for Lock Out Tag Out and other techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. Help keep shop, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. Inspect tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed. Perform preventive maintenance including checking for leaks, worn parts, taking oil samples; order and install replacement parts; adjust, calibrate and inspect the operation of all generators. Respond to emergency calls as needed and be on-call/stand-by as assigned by supervisor. Maintain confidentiality. Regular attendance. Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 2 years of mechanic work on gasoline and diesel engines QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Valid Texas driving license Electrical Apprentice Card issued by TDLR Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to repair and maintain gas and diesel motors and small engines Ability to diagnose mechanical problems Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in generator repair Ability to lift heavy equipment and generator parts CONTACT INFORMATION: EQUIPMENT USED: Automotive diagnostic equipment, small hand tools, drill, drill press, grinder, air-powered tools, welding torch, torque wrench, jacks, and lift equipment. Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate walking, standing, climbing, heavy, lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching. Work outside and inside and around moving objects or vehicles, work on ladders and scaffolding. Exposure to dampness and humidity and slippery or uneven walking surfaces.
