Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Assist in bus routing for school year, summer school and redistricting as needed. Respond to inquiries, complaints, and other student transportation matters via telephone, in person, mail or email and provides information concerning bus routes, policies, procedures, standards, rules and regulations. Assists and responds to bus complaints from bus drivers, parents, guardians, community members and administration, reviews bus videos and submits referrals if deemed necessary. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work and assist drivers and aides with questions and/or concerns. Maintains a variety of records, forms, and other related information to ensure accuracy and completeness (i.e. trip mileage, activity bus driver approval/time, SPED transportation forms, pre-trip inspections, fire extinguisher, etc) Receive and submit all work orders/invoices for transportation and maintenance to finance department timely and accurately On occasion, may drive a District vehicle and transport students, or function as a Bus Aide as needed. Supports transportation staff with communication to school division staff Assists with facilitating communication between bus drivers, including the operation of two-way radio equipment. Maintain an updated database of approved contractors, ensuring all certificates of insurance and background checks are current before they arrive on-site. Track and order custodial and maintenance supplies to ensure individual schools have necessary materials while staying within budget. Collect and input data regarding water, electricity, and gas usage to help the department identify spikes or opportunities for energy conservation. Monitor the work order system to provide weekly reports on "time-to-completion" and identify recurring maintenance issues at specific school sites. Assist in preparing final year end reports and prepare for bus driver meetings Coordinate with the Transportation Coordinator on the use of County vehicles. Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent, or designee. Qualifications Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all levels of division personnel and all levels of government. Demonstrates good organizational skills, is detail oriented; able to multi-task; and to reconcile errors and make corrections as needed. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to utilize a variety of technology type including, but not limited to desktop computer and software Education and/or Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Administrative/Secretarial experience preferred. Logistics and operations experience are a plus. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as business and government forms/reports, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees or public. Reasoning/Other Abilities Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex oral and written instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations and adjust to variables. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work is subject to deadlines and frequent interruptions. Evaluation Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of classified personnel.
