Salary: $19.44 Hourly Location : Ashland Parks & Recreation, OR Job Type: Temporary limited duration appointment Job Number: Program Assistant 2.26 Department: Parks & Recreation Opening Date: 02/09/2026 Closing Date: 2/27/2026 2:00 PM Pacific Description This position is a part time, temporary position anticipated to last through the end of October 2026. The definition of a seasonal employee is one that is hired for a specific job for 6 months or less. These types of appointments are used for positions that occur, terminate, and recur periodically or regularly. This is a limited duration position, 25 hours/week (varies) Tuesday-Saturday, with the main function as coordinating and participating in work parties with volunteers throughout the park system. This position will also assist with Environmental Education and interpretation programs at North Mountain Park. This position is not eligible for benefits. Hours and schedule are varied and require flexibility and holiday/weekend availability. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 50% of role Coordinates and participates in parks maintenance Adopt-a-Park work parties within all the Ashland parks such as Lithia, North Mountain, and Hunter Park sites. Assist with the Ashland Parks Youth Conservation Corps program. Educate volunteers on proper technique for caring for parks and grounds. Use effective communication strategies for customers, public, APR staff, and associated organizations to promote inclusion in the Volunteer Program Assist with volunteer coordination for APR special events between April and end of October. 50% of role Assists with service-learning programs that educate about natural history and sustainability while engaging students in active stewardship. Assists with maintenance and data recording of current wildlife monitoring and data collection efforts including nest boxes, bird feeders, observation boards, bird surveys, trail counters and wildlife cams. Restocks, organizes, and updates interpretive curricula used in service learning, gardens, partnerships, self-guided trails, and Field Learning Kits. Help maintain interpretive signs, memorial bricks, and other outdoor interpretive infrastructure as part of a team. Aids instructors offering programs at the Nature Center. AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:Operate small power and electric equipment as required and assist with the care and maintenance of hand tools. Maintains the organization and cleanliness of sheds, tools, and equipment as part of a daily routine. Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently or with others. Works effectively with other Parks' employees and the public in providing customer service. Must be outgoing and willing to engage with park visitors. Responsive to verbal and written direction in order to prioritize and execute daily tasks. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED equivalent Possession of valid Oregon drivers license (or ability to obtain) and acceptable driving record may be required. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with invasive species control and working with volunteers are desired qualities.
