Must have previous charge experience. No scheduled time off permitted. Shift hours are from 19:00 to 07:00. The schedule includes working three 12-hour shifts one week and four 12-hour shifts the following week. Every other weekend is required. There is potential to float to other departments in case of an emergency. The charge nurse is responsible for assisting in other departments when necessary. Patient ratios are a maximum of 1:5 on a 10-bed floor. Previous charge experience is required. First-time travelers are accepted. Experience with the charting system is preferred. Skills required include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, chest tube management, and interpretation of arterial blood gases. Additional skills include blood product administration, phlebotomy, and maintaining IVs. Familiarity with isolation precautions and conducting head-to-toe assessments is necessary. Floating may be required during emergencies. Pre-approved time off is not permitted. The unit supports interdisciplinary collaboration with various services. Patient diagnoses and special procedures within the unit are varied. Skills related to managing cerebrovascular accidents and mood disorders are required. This is a fast-paced environment requiring adaptability and strong clinical skills.
