The PRN Pharmacy Technician prepares, packages, and distributes medications, under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. The technician also performs clerical duties related to the operation of a pharmacy. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Refills Pyxis Med stations and Anesthesia Systems; loads and unloads medications as needed. Sends daily electronic drug orders to wholesaler or other vendors in order to maintain adequate drug and supply inventories in the pharmacy as well as each Pyxis device. Utilizes CPSI for initiating Purchase Orders when ordering from wholesaler or other vendors; also enters the receipt of the items associated with a P.O. in CPSI. Assists in verifying controlled medication documentation and reporting. Assists new anesthesia providers with registering their Bio ID and creating kits in Pyxis, if needed, along with a user badge for Codonics. Conducts A-System charge verifications against anesthesia Records and daily charge verification; credits the medications that were erroneously charged twice in CPSI. Monitors inventory for expired or wasted drugs that must be removed and quarantined from the pharmacy area, Pyxis Med stations, A-Systems, and crash carts. Prepares unit-dose medications under direct supervision of a pharmacist, compounds low and medium risk sterile preparations under direct supervision of a pharmacist. Monitors medication refrigerators and responds to temperature alerts. Assists with biannual physical inventory of medications by either counting or keying in inventory. Must work within scope of practice. Specific Projects / Assignments: 1. Assists with annual physical inventory of medications. Education & Training: High School diploma or equivalent required Associate's degree preferred Experience: Minimum 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred (at least 1 year of OR experience). Licensure/Certification/Registration: Texas State Board of Pharmacy Certification/License required Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certification required Sterile Pharmaceutical Compounding Certification required BLS (Basic Life Support) required Key Skills: Must be proficient with Pyxis ES Medstations and Anesthesia Systems, including scanning, refilling, loading, and unloading medications. Knowledge of drug names, generic equivalents, and common medical terminology and abbreviations. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations, measurements, and conversions. Knowledge of clerical and recordkeeping practices, including patient billing. General knowledge of pharmacy practices and procedures. Proficiency with computers and MS Office applications.
