NEW EMPLOYEES ARE HIRED AT, OR NEAR THE ENTRY POINT SHOWN, DEPENDING ON QUALIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT EXPERIENCE.FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: YES Level II Screening: NO Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, will perform responsible mechanical work involving the installation, maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, and fixtures or other mechanical components at the water treatment facility. This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation: Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice. Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work. Duties/Responsibilities Will perform daily inspection and preventative maintenance on pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other industrial equipment throughout the treatment facilities. Will diagnose and repair operating deficiencies related to pumps, motors, gearboxes, and other industrial equipment throughout the treatment facilities. Install new or repaired equipment. Remove equipment for shipment and repair by outside vendors. Fabricate components for use in repairing/installing plant equipment or systems. Determine parts and equipment needed to repair, replace or install new equipment. Review Operation and Maintenance manuals to ascertain proper operating and maintenance parameters for equipment and systems. Assist plant electricians in installing and maintaining electrical equipment. Maintain a clean and safe maintenance shop. May require to drive a motor vehicle to accomplish assign task. This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of standards, methods, materials and tools of the industrial mechanical trade. Working knowledge of the maintenance of equipment required for assigned task. Knowledgeable in the occupational hazards, safety precautions and personal protective equipment observed in the trade(s) assigned. Knowledgeable in the City and State rules, regulations and protocols. Knowledgeable in general housekeeping practices. Skill in the efficient and safe operation of trade specific tools and equipment. Skill in troubleshooting and repair within assigned trade(s). Ability to read and understand diagrams/schematics of mechanical equipment and systems. Ability to keep comprehensive repair and maintenance records required to meet regulatory requirements for the facilities. Ability to operate necessary equipment, including forklift, jib cranes, hand tools, welding and burning equipment, band saw, drill press, and any other tool or equipment needed to maintain and industrial facility. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to apply sound judgment and interpretation based on acquired knowledge in circumstances where limited standardization exists. Ability to adapt to performing under frequent deadlines and/ or in response to emergencies. Ability to receive and understand oral and written directions. Ability to recognize and address common safety issues in the field Ability to detect improper functioning mechanical systems. Ability to review and organize work for efficient results and accuracy. Ability to operate manual and power hand tools, and other heavy equipment and machinery. Minimum Requirements High School diploma or GED. Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment or related field. Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required. Physical Demands and Working Conditions This work typically requires the following physical activities to be performed. Lifting - raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back. Mental Acuity - ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning. Pulling - use upper extremities to exert force, haul or tug. Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision. Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures. Visual Acuity 4 - operate motor vehicles/heavy equipment. Visual Acuity 5 -close acuity for inspection of small defects, machines, use measurement devices, or fabricate parts. Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site. Work performed is primarily: Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. WORK ENVIRONMENT Tasks are performed outside, subject to weather conditions and uneven terrain, and risk of exposure to toxic agents/chemicals, pathogens, and smoke. Contact with internal and external customers, vendors and the general public Ability to perform strenuous work in varying and adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; risk of vibration. Must have the ability to work after hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and during emergencies.
