For more information, visit Job Summary: The Senior Linux Administrator will be responsible for the successful maintenance and support of mission critical Linux and UNIX systems in a 24x7 highly virtualized environment. Responsibilities include, but not limited to systems management tasks, such as Operating System upgrades, patch maintenance, performance tuning, and Operating System hardening. In addition, the Senior Linux Administrator will be responsible for the monitoring of incoming service requests, incidents, and projects to ensure that they are completed in a timely and high quality manner. This position will work closely with other IT departments to guarantee reliable systems that meet the needs of the company. ResponsibilitiesInstalls, configures, and deploys Red Hat Linux and Oracle Enterprise Linux systems. Supports Linux/Unix systems in an Oracle RAC environment. Performs problem troubleshooting, diagnosis, and resolution of kernel panics, system hangs, performance issues, and any other O/S related issues. Proactively monitors systems to ensure optimal performance, systems health, and availability. Provides assistance and support to the application teams in identifying root cause, corrective action, and resolution. Performs ongoing performance tuning and resource optimization as required. Performs systems capacity planning. Provides trending, utilization, and availability reports on a regular basis. Works closely with various IT groups to schedules and coordinates preventative and corrective maintenance, perform installations of hardware, software, and operating systems changes and configurations. Follows CooperVision's change management practices. Monitors incoming service requests, incidents, and projects to ensure that they are completed in a timely and high quality manner. Documents all policies, procedures, standards, system administration activity, and disaster recovery procedures around the build and continuing operation of the Linux/UNIX systems. Performs Operating System management tasks, including upgrades, patch maintenance, performance tuning, and O/S hardening. Leverages scripting skills and available tools to automated processes. Ensures systems configuration follows best practices and adheres to CooperVision's security and SOX policies/guidelines. Conducts routine hardware and software audits; and provide recommendations for hardware and system software planning. Works closely with various IT groups including but not limited to project management, database administration, network and security teams, application team and assists in overall architectural design, implementation and troubleshooting. Diagnosis hardware and software problems and recommends solutions and performs necessary system repairs. Ensure backup services are configured to serve and functions as a line of defense against inadvertent system damage. Researches, analyzes and recommends backup/security strategies as required. Works with the Manager in establishing policies on system use and services. Planning of the future of the operating system environment. Provides on-call support for problem resolution. Travel Requirements: Potential for domestic/international travel approx. 5% Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with logical volume management and clustering solutions. Strong scripting skills in any common scripting language available on Linux. Experience with Linux deployments on VMWare (Redhat/Oracle). Experience with WebLogic, Apache. Strong Oracle Database understanding. Understanding of SAN concepts preferred. Experience with Storage Technologies, VSAN. Performance monitoring and capacity planning. IBM Netezza experience a plus. Experience with containers. Centrify Active Directory Bridging experience a plus. Knowledge of Directory Services. Excellent problem solving and analytical expertise. The ability to prioritize demands for mission critical systems. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent time management. Highly self-motivated, self-directed, and attentive to detail. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Ability to suggest technological solutions. Ability to communicate effectively with management. Adapts readily to changes in workload, staffing and scheduling. Complies with all company policies and procedures. Conducts self in a professional manner with co-workers, management, customers and others. Work Environment: Normal office environment. Sedentary to light physical effort necessary to perform the job. Work from home options. On-Call rotation 1 in 3. Limited global travel may be required (5%). Experience: Minimum 5-10 years' experience in systems administration and/or related areas. Education: University Degree in relevant field or equivalent experience in field is required. For U.S. locations that require disclosure of compensation, the starting base pay for this role is between $118,046.00 and $157,395.00 per year and may include cost of living adjustments.
