In this critical role, you will be responsible for developing accurate, competitive, and profitable bids while partnering closely with operations and project teams to support successful project execution. This position is ideal for an estimator who thrives in a fast-paced construction environment, understands underground utility work, and enjoys turning complex plans and specifications into winning bids. Key Responsibilities Estimating & Cost Analysis Prepare detailed cost estimates for sewer, water, and storm utility construction projects Perform accurate quantity takeoffs for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted work Review construction plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents Bidding & Preconstruction Solicit, analyze, and compare subcontractor and supplier pricing Develop competitive bid strategies in collaboration with management and operations teams Prepare bid summaries, scopes of work, clarifications, and supporting documentation Assist with bid submissions, bid openings, and post-bid negotiations Risk Management & Value Engineering Identify project risks, constructability challenges, and cost-saving opportunities Support value engineering initiatives, contingency development, and margin planning Maintain and utilize historical cost data to continuously improve estimating accuracy Project Coordination Support a smooth handoff from estimating to project management and field operations Collaborate with project managers and field teams to ensure estimates align with execution plans Technology & Tools Utilize estimating software to build, analyze, and maintain estimates HeavyBid and Bluebeam experience is strongly preferred Qualifications Required Minimum 2+ years of estimating experience in underground utility construction (sewer, water, storm) Strong understanding of underground construction methods, materials, and means Ability to read and interpret construction plans and technical specifications Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Excel / Microsoft Office Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously Excellent written and verbal communication skills Preferred Experience with unit-price and lump-sum utility contracts Knowledge of municipal standards and specifications Familiarity with scheduling, production rates, and cost forecasting Experience working closely with project managers and field operations Understanding of risk analysis, contingencies, and margin development Benefits Competitive salary: $80,000-$100,000 per year Health insurance options Retirement plan options Paid time off Career growth and advancement opportunities Stable, long-term employment with a respected utility contractor Work Schedule Full-Time Monday-Friday Occasional extended hours during bid deadlines as needed Work Location Primary office location: Haltom City, TX Primarily office-based with occasional site visits for pre-bid walks and project familiarity Equal Employment Opportunity We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer.
