The Garden at St. Francis is a ministry of St. Francis Episcopal Church and a community outreach program in North Bellmore and beyond. Now entering its 16th growing season, the Garden’s mission is to address food insecurity through a reverent and diverse partnership with the community and the earth. Through organic gardening practices, we heal the soil and nurture the earth. In return, we are rewarded with an abundance of pure, nutrient rich food to share with local feeding pantries and at our weekly Sunday Farm Stand, June through October. We are seeking a Gardener to help us with the physical labor associated with cultivating the Garden. The Gardener will be supervised by the Rector and works closely with the Garden Team, a group of dedicated and experienced parishioners who plan, manage, and work in the Garden. RESPONSIBILITIES Digging, planting, tilling, harvesting, laying compost, as instructed by the Garden Team. Operation of tools and equipment. Making sure all tools are properly stored at the end of work day. Respectful interaction with volunteers and the Garden Team. Our community is affirming and inclusive. Commit to a regular schedule. REQUIREMENTS Prior gardening/farming experience preferred Ability to lift 50 lbs and operate handheld machinery Willingness to work in all weather Completion of background check Completion of Diocesan Safe Church Training upon hiring SCHEDULE AND BENEFITS We are looking for someone who will commit to a full Garden season. This is a part-time, hourly position and does not include housing or benefits. Anticipated hours are 8 per week, at $20 per hour. Schedule will be set upon hiring.
