Job Type Internship Description The Land Trust for Tennessee Position: Stewardship Intern Supervisor: Brooke Johnson, Stewardship Coordinator Location: Chattanooga Metro Area, Tennessee Unpaid Internship, College Credit Preferred Internship Dates & Times For at least 8 weeks, at least one 8-hour day preferred; minimum of 8 hours per week About The Land Trust for Tennessee The Land Trust for Tennessee ("LTTN") is an accredited non-profit land conservation organization whose mission is to conserve the unique character of Tennessee's natural and historic landscapes and sites for future generations. The protection of Tennessee's vibrant landscapes is accomplished through a multitude of conservation tools, including conservation easements. LTTN has protected 137,000 acres through over 460 conservation projects across the state of Tennessee, with offices located in Nashville and Chattanooga. The Opportunity The Land Trust for Tennessee is seeking a bright, curious and hard-working intern to become a part of The Land Trust team to learn about land conservation and stewardship. The ideal candidate would have class work or previous experience in related fields such as forestry, agriculture, history and/or education and a strong interest in Tennessee's natural and agricultural environments. This intern will have the opportunity to connect with staff members across the organization to learn about our work. This intern should be prepared to spend extended periods of time outside visiting LTTN's protected properties. This internship is based out of Chattanooga. Primary Responsibilities • Conducts regular field visits with stewardship staff to monitor protected properties; includes communication with landowner to set visit dates and completion of follow-up forms following visits • Conducts aerial monitoring visits using satellite imagery and completes follow-up forms • Assistance with research for stewardship team as well as mapping projects using GIS and GPS • In-office record keeping for stewardship files • Assistance with community and outreach events Desired Skills and Qualifications A commitment to land conservation Excellent communication abilities Proficiency with computers- especially in Microsoft Office and internet research Efficient and organized research abilities and the ability to work independently Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods of time ArcGIS Pro experience preferred Must have personal vehicle or reliable transportation Appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear (comfortable hiking shoes, long pants, etc.) Internship Requirements: Currently seeking environmental nonprofit experience while being currently enrolled, credit-seeking, and/or a degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate student, or within a year after graduation. At the conclusion of this internship, each intern will do a presentation to staff that summarizes their internship, highlighting their accomplishments and what they learned. All internships at The Land Trust for Tennessee are designed to be immersive. Interns are encouraged to express their interests, participate in organization-wide meetings, and connect with staff across departments when possible. The essential functions and basic skills have been included. LTTN will work with students to complete all required paperwork and documentation, including a background check.
