Develops and establishes procedures for collecting, processing, and analyzing biological specimens and other substances. Performs and reports analytical tests, integrating and relating data generated by various clinical laboratory departments while making decisions regarding possible discrepancies. Confirms abnormal results, verifying, executing, and making decisions based on quality control procedures. Develops solutions to problems concerning the generation of laboratory data. Establishes and performs preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment, identifying appropriate sources for repairs. Supports laboratory goals by demonstrating teamwork and service excellence while adhering to established guidelines and policies. Looks for ways to improve processes. Works with medical laboratory science students during educational laboratory activities. Demonstrates independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Engages with internal customers via telephone or face-to-face interaction. Interacts with external customers via telephone or face-to-face communication. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff. The lab operates on a relatively small team structure and may support multiple areas as needed. Test volume is approximately 700 tests per 24-hour period, with staffing of 3 medical technologists and 3 phlebotomists per shift. The role is suitable for recent graduates.
