Our expected salary range for this position is between $114,300 and $127,000, dependent on experience, alongside a multi-faceted benefits package including bonuses and a 401(k). Location This is a remote position based in the Mid-Atlantic US. The role may require up to 60% travel, focusing on projects predominantly located within the Mid-Atlantic region. Candidates must reside in this area to effectively facilitate client site visits and meet travel expectations. Occasional travel to the Warrendale, PA office and other Constellation offices may be necessary for in-person meetings and collaboration as requested by leadership. Our ideal candidate will be based in the Maryland / D.C. / Virginia area to accommodate regular travel demands. Primary Purpose of Position The Senior Development Engineer is tasked with spearheading Infrastructure Renewal and Building Upgrade & Improvement projects with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability. Under leadership guidance, this role will involve supporting the identification and development of viable energy services and asset projects within the Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Federal sectors. Projects may be initiated through the sales force or be developed independently. This position will also provide technical and financial analysis of energy conservation measures and energy supply for prospective projects, while assisting sales efforts to secure new clients through building relationships and offering technical support throughout both the sales and construction phases. Primary Duties and Accountabilities Assess energy-saving opportunities at client facilities by conducting ASHRAE Level I, II & III energy audits, preparing detailed technical proposals that highlight potential energy conservation measures. Utilize technical acumen to create preliminary designs and estimates of costs and energy saving prospects at client sites. Lead and execute engineering tasks for critical or complex projects that require cross-disciplinary knowledge, focusing on large-scale lighting and water conservation projects. Employ current energy modeling software to facilitate building analysis and project planning. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the design intent, constructability, and overall cost-effectiveness of all deliverables. Exemplify leadership in safety practices by promoting compliance, rectifying unsafe behaviors, and fostering a safe work environment. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, or a related field). A minimum of 5 years of experience in consulting engineering, design-build, or energy services. Experience in developing intricate energy conservation projects for both construction and retrofit applications, backed by solid knowledge of relevant systems and methodologies. Extensive understanding of HVAC, electrical, building automation, and process-related systems across commercial, industrial, governmental, and healthcare facilities. Proven experience applying engineering theory and structured problem-solving strategies. Ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical and mechanical systems. Understanding of applicable construction standards and codes. Experience in applying project life cycle cost analysis. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, alongside report generation and technical writing capabilities. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Ability to meet eligibility requirements for access to government facilities. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineering (PE) registration, Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and/or LEED accreditation. Ability to perform load calculations and energy analyses using industry-standard modeling software, such as EnergyPlus, eQuest, and Trane Trace 3D, as well as solar PV evaluation tools like Helioscope and design programs like AutoCAD. Experience developing energy conservation initiatives for the Federal Government via Super ESPC and/or area-wide contract vehicles, along with familiarity with FEMP/IPMVP Measurement and Verification guidelines. Experience in creating energy conservation projects that incorporate solar PV, renewable energy technologies, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centers, and large prime movers such as combustion turbines, biomass, and landfill gas facilities.
