Job Description

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) delivers compassionate, trauma-informed, and timely care to victims and perpetrators of violence, both intentional and unintentional. Essential Responsibilities: Perform nursing acts within the scope defined by licensing boards. Utilize knowledge and skills to provide patient care aligned with unit competencies, policies, and procedures. Accurately assess patient needs and develop, implement, review, and maintain comprehensive care plans. Provide care to patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics to achieve desired outcomes. Conduct quality assurance including maintaining chain of evidence, documentation, referrals, report preparation and interpretation, and compliance with mandatory reporting. Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of examination and treatment. Coordinate preparation of documents, testimony, and case facts as needed. Complete timely and accurate documentation following organizational policies. Meet scheduling requirements including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties. Uphold privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI). Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, team members, physicians, contractors, outside agencies, and the public. Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited RN program. Completion of a 64-hour course or two 40-hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire. Minimum of one year acute care experience. Licenses and Certifications: Current BLS/CPR certification from an approved provider within 30 days of hire or by orientation end. Current ACLS and PALS certifications within six months of hire. Registered Nurse credential from a compact state or relevant board. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). SANE-A and SANE-P certifications. Skills and Abilities: Basic computer proficiency. Strong multitasking and prioritization skills. Effective communication with sensitivity to cultural, educational, and age diversity. Ability to remain calm under stress. Compassionate and empathetic patient care approach. Physical Requirements: Medium work involving occasional exertion up to 50 lbs and frequent exertion up to 10 lbs. Standing or walking 26-50% of the day.
