Position Type: Special Education/Therapy Date Posted: 7/22/2025 Location: Special Education Job Summary: The Special Education Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic services to students with disabilities, enabling them to achieve their maximum potential in educational settings. This role involves assessing students' needs, developing individualized treatment plans, and collaborating with educators and families to support the overall development of each student. Key Responsibilities: 1. Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students' functional abilities and needs. 2. Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans based on assessment results. 3. Provide direct therapy services to students in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). 4. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to integrate therapeutic strategies into the classroom environment. 5. Monitor and document student progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary. 6. Educate staff and families on strategies to support students' occupational therapy goals. 7. Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of educational goals for students. 8. Maintain accurate records of therapy sessions, assessments, and progress reports in compliance with legal requirements. 9. Stay current with best practices in occupational therapy and special education through ongoing professional development. 10. Conduct occupational therapy screenings and recommend interventions for students identified as "at risk" for future developmental or functional difficulties within the educational environment. 11. Identify students who require occupational therapy services to support access to and benefit from their special education programs. 12. Collaborate as a member of the educational team to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and educationally relevant, student-centered goals. 13. Provide training and support to classroom teachers and paraprofessionals on developmentally appropriate instructional strategies, exercises, and activities that align with IEP goals. 14. Maintain consistent communication with principals, counselors, social workers, general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, students, and caregivers regarding therapy goals, progress, outcomes, and interventions. 15. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program. 1. A valid Indiana state license or certification as an Occupational Therapist. 2. Experience working with children with disabilities in a school or clinical setting is preferred. 3. Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations related to occupational therapy services. 4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders. 5. A compassionate approach towards working with children and their families. 6. The ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
