In this pivotal role, you'll be central to shaping the future of large-scale developer products by conducting foundational and evaluative research that informs design and product strategy, with a particular emphasis on understanding and improving developer experiences with APIs. You'll apply your expertise in qualitative research methods, complemented by strong survey design skills, to uncover developer needs, motivations, and behaviors. Your work will influence products used by billions of users globally, ensuring experiences remain user-centered, intuitive, and impactful. Key Responsibilities Design and execute end-to-end primary qualitative research studies using methods such as usability testing and interviews to explore developer needs and behaviors, with a strong emphasis on APIs and developer tools. Design and implement surveys to gather quantitative data that complements qualitative insights, providing a holistic view of developer experiences. Partner closely with designers, product managers, engineers, and content strategists to integrate user insights into the product development lifecycle for developer-facing products. Create and align research roadmaps with internal sponsors, defining objectives, scope, and timelines for studies focused on developer platforms. Manage operational execution of research activities, including participant recruitment (with a focus on developers), script development, facilitation, and reporting. Translate research findings into interface and interaction design recommendations that identify gaps and opportunities in developer tools and API experiences. Present compelling written, visual, and in-person research reports that influence decision-making across stakeholders, including senior leadership, by advocating for the developer perspective. Champion user-centered design in product planning, reviews, and strategic discussions, ensuring developer needs are prioritized. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure research insights are embedded into product and business strategies for developer platforms. Contribute to a positive team culture by mentoring junior researchers and participating in knowledge-sharing practices, particularly around developer UX. Ability to tailor research approaches to problem scope and stakeholder needs, with strong survey design capabilities. Proven ability to lead studies from scoping through insight delivery with measurable impact. Collaboration and Cross-Functional Partnership Strong track record of working with PMs, designers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders in agile environments. Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leaders. Experience influencing teams toward user-first decisions for complex technical products. Data Analysis and Insight Synthesis Skilled in synthesizing qualitative findings into clear, actionable recommendations. Experience researching developer platforms, APIs, programming languages, or developer tools (e.g., IDEs, cloud platforms, CI/CD tools). Exposure to AI-powered products or understanding diverse developer mindsets. Experience influencing product vision or roadmap decisions with executive stakeholders. Familiarity working in large, matrixed organizations across multiple product areas. Experience researching complex professional tools or workflows beyond developer tools.
