MOUNTAIN VIEW SURGERY CENTER AT GILBERT IS SEEKING A FULL TIME PRE/POST OP CARE NURSE TO JOIN THE TEAM! JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or the Clinical Director, in this role the candidate is responsible for the patient’s admission to the facility, comprehensive pre-operative care, immediate post-operative care, and stabilization for return to the home environment. RESPONSIBILITIES WOULD INCLUDE: • Utilizing specialized nursing knowledge and judgment while providing direct and indirect patient care. • Being responsible for patient’s admission and pre-operative care; holistic preparation for surgery/procedures, considering all needs, including pre-operative education, escort/family members, psychosocial needs, utilizing preference cards, and acting under established protocols, practices, and standing orders. • Being responsible for the patient’s post-operative care and stabilization; holistic preparation for return to the home environment, considering all needs, including post-discharge care, escort/family members, educational and psychosocial needs, utilizing preference cards and acting under established protocols, practices, and standing orders. • Coordinating pre-operative lab work as applicable for individual patients, documenting and reporting pertinent results. • Documenting actions in medical record completely and accurately in a timely manner. • Keeping safety of patient, self, and others a PRIMARY concern at all times; acts appropriately in an emergency situation. • Performing thorough and accurate continual patient assessment, anticipating potential problems and reporting pertinent assessments to anesthesia, supervisor, and/or surgeon appropriately. • Making peri-operative phone calls, assessing patient status and reporting any pertinent information to supervisor and/or Medical Director. • Acting as discharge nurse when assigned, giving holistic and thorough discharge education. • Participating as a team member in planning and implementation of patient care; takes responsibility for an adequate patient load, reviews schedule for next day with preference cards. • Monitoring surgery schedule continually, communicating arrivals, cancellations, delays; communicates with reception desk, contacts patients or surgeons who are late. • Supervising and directing, as requested, the activities of PCTs/Aides as delegated and non-professional personnel.The Physical and mental requirements for this position are extensive mobility, walking, and standing. As well as, spending 90% of time pushing, pulling, lifting equipment. While also lifting, turning, and assisting patients.Required SkillsEXPERIENCE/SKILLS/EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing,Currently licensed as an RN in the state of Arizona.Minimum of one-year experience in acute care.BLS and ACLS required.Demonstrates clinical competency and teaching capabilities.Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of position.Cardiac monitored nursing care preferred.A utilization of critical thinking and problem solving skills, while making suggestions for improvement as needed.Demonstration interest and enthusiasm towards work.Demonstration of a good nursing knowledge base and rationale for actions, including cardiac monitoring.An ability to function effectively as a member of the surgery center team.A keen time management qualityA willingness of flexibility in accommodating schedule changes, i.e. working late or early, changing workdays, travel between USPI facilities, etc.The ability to contributes to an increased morale and positive attitude in the department and facility.A Strong development of communication skills and promotes inter-departmental relationships to ensure continuity of care.Willingness to participate in on-going committees and other educational programs to enhance patient care.Ability to analyze, problem solve, and make decisions quickly and calmly.Self driven and motivated while showing an ability to work independently as needed.A thorough knowledge of nursing theory and excellent patient assessment skills.A strong sense of responsibility and maintaining accountability.The ability to accept change.Strong organization skills.
