Summary Plastics & Reconstructive Oncology APP Fellow12-Month Advanced Practice Fellowship Program Note: This is a 12-month learning-based APP Fellowship program with a tentative start date of August 2026. The position offers full benefits and a fellowship salary of $75,000. Program Overview The Plastics & Reconstructive Oncology Advanced Practice Fellowship is designed for licensed APRNs and PA-Cs seeking specialized training in complex reconstruction for oncology patients. Fellows will gain comprehensive experience across the perioperative continuum, including first assist responsibilities in the operating room, inpatient postoperative management, and outpatient clinic evaluation under supervision of Physician and APP mentor. Based within the Reconstructive Oncology/Plastic Surgery Department, the APP Fellow provides patient care under the Moffitt Medical Group (MMG) and contributes to the institution's mission of preventing and curing cancer through excellence in clinical practice, education, and academic engagement. Position Highlights Immersive surgical experience assisting reconstructive oncologic surgeons in advanced procedures, including flap-based reconstruction, complex wound closure, and microsurgical cases. Full-spectrum oncology exposure, managing patients undergoing reconstruction related to melanoma, breast cancer, sarcoma, head & neck cancer, and other malignancies. Practice within a defined scope under the supervision of attending reconstructive surgeons along with APP Mentors and established clinical protocols. Balanced training across the OR, inpatient postoperative service, and outpatient clinic. The Ideal Candidate A clinically driven professional passionate about surgical oncology and reconstructive patient care. A strong communicator who excels in a learning-focused, highly collaborative surgical team environment. Compassionate, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering exceptional perioperative care. ResponsibilitiesSurgical Function as first assist in the operating room, participating in oncologic reconstructive procedures across multiple cancer specialties. Support operative workflow: pre-op evaluation, positioning, assisting with flap harvest, wound closure, and postoperative dressing management. Inpatient Round on postoperative patients, managing surgical drains, wound assessments, pain control, and overall recovery progression. Identify, evaluate, and escalate postoperative complications in collaboration with the surgical team. Outpatient Conduct clinic visits including pre-operative assessments, postoperative follow-ups, wound care, and long-term reconstructive surveillance. Assist with minor procedures within scope (e.g., suture removal, dressing changes, local anesthetic procedures). Clinical & Academic Formulate differential diagnoses and treatment plans using clinical evaluation, labs, imaging, and interdisciplinary input. Prescribe medications within scope of practice. Document care in accordance with MMG medical staff rules. Attend and participate in tumor boards, multidisciplinary conferences, and educational seminars. Complete a fellowship research project and present findings via poster or podium presentation. Credentials & Qualifications Bachelor's degree required at minimum. Graduate of an accredited APRN or PA program with national board certification. Eligible for Florida APRN or PA licensure, obtained one month prior to fellowship start. Current BLS and ACLS certification (must be maintained throughout the fellowship). Preferred: Experience in oncology, surgical services, critical care, or general internal medicine.
