Job Title: Heritage Park Sports Complex Facility SupervisorJob Status: Part Time - Non-Exempt Department: Recreation Primary Work Location: Community Recreation Center Reports To: Athletic Facilities Manager Supervisory Responsibility: HPSC Concessions Position Summary The HPSC Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily operations at the Heritage Park Sports Complex, including field use, facility setup and breakdown, concessions management, staff supervision, and inventory control. This position serves as the on-site lead during assigned shifts and ensures safe, efficient, and professional operations while delivering excellent customer service to athletic user groups and the community. Essential Job Duties • Serve as the on-site supervisor during assigned shifts with full operational oversight of fields, concessions, and facility use. • Open and close the complex, including preparing fields, facilities, and concessions for scheduled rentals, leagues, and events. • Supervise concession staff, assign duties, monitor performance, and ensure proper customer service and cash handling procedures. • Oversee and ensure responsible alcohol service in compliance with Illinois liquor laws and Park District policies. • Monitor alcohol sales and consumption to ensure a safe and compliant environment. • Oversee daily cash handling procedures for concessions, including reconciliation of drawers, preparing deposits, securing funds, and following Park District financial policies. • Maintain and manage concession inventory, including tracking usage, identifying shortages, organizing stock, and reporting ordering needs to the Athletic Facilities Manager. • Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the facility, including concession stands, storage areas, restrooms, common areas, and athletic fields, to ensure a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for guests, participants, and staff. • Monitor and enforce Park District rules and policies to ensure a safe environment for participants and spectators. • Address patron concerns, behavioral issues, and facility conflicts in a professional manner. • Ensure event setup and breakdown are completed properly and efficiently. • Monitor weather and field conditions and make operational decisions in coordination with officials and leadership. • Complete incident reports and document maintenance or safety concerns. • Assist with powering on/off field lights and securing the facility at the conclusion of events. • Participates in required training and safety programs as established by the Wheeling Park District. • Supports and exhibits the organizational values of respect, communication, integrity, innovation, recognition and appreciation, continuous learning, fun, empowerment and people. • Performs special projects or other duties as assigned. Position Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. Prior experience supervising staff in a recreational, athletic, concessions, or event setting preferred. College coursework in recreation, sports management, business, or a related field is a plus. Must be at least 21 years of age. Illinois BASSET certification required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire. Skills and Abilities Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently, solve problems, and complete tasks in a timely manner. Demonstrate initiative, dependability, sound judgment, leadership, and the ability to work positively with the general public, Park District staff, and Board of Commissioners. Ability to handle cash accurately and responsibly, including reconciling receipts and preparing deposits in accordance with Park District procedures. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion when overseeing alcohol service and addressing patron behavior Basic computer proficiency, including email communication, data entry, inventory tracking, and point-of-sale systems. Ability to complete reports and documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Demonstrate consistent attendance and on-time arrival. Valid Illinois driver's license required. Must be able to read, write, and speak in English. CPR/AED certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days. Specific vision abilities are required and include close vision and ability to adjust focus. May need to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions Employee may be exposed to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions. Driving to other park facilities will require the worker to be outside. May be exposed to cleaning agents, fertilizers, and toner chemicals.
