Job Description

The Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) delivers compassionate, trauma-informed, and non-judgmental care to victims and/or perpetrators of violence, whether intentional or accidental. Essential Responsibilities: Perform nursing acts within the scope defined by licensing boards. Utilize knowledge and skills to provide patient care aligned with unit competencies, policies, and procedures. Accurately assess patient needs and develop, implement, review, and maintain comprehensive care plans. Provide care to patients ranging from newborns to geriatrics to achieve desired outcomes. Conduct quality assurance including maintaining chain of evidence, appropriate documentation, referrals, report preparation and interpretation, and compliance with mandatory reporting. Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of examinations and treatments. Coordinate preparation of documents, testimony, and case facts as needed. Complete timely and accurate documentation per organizational policies. Meet scheduling requirements including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties. Uphold privacy and security regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI). Maintain effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, team members, physicians, contractors, outside agencies, and the public. Education: Graduate of an accredited RN program. Experience: Minimum of one year acute care experience. Completion of a 64-hour course or two 40-hour IAFN SANE training courses within six months of hire. Licenses and Certifications: Current BLS/CPR certification within 30 days of hire or by orientation end. Current ACLS and PALS certifications within six months of hire. Registered Nurse credential from a compact state or relevant nursing board. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). SANE-A and SANE-P certifications. Skills and Abilities: Basic computer proficiency, multitasking, prioritization, effective communication with cultural and age diversity awareness, calmness under stress, and a compassionate approach to patient care. Physical Requirements: Medium work involving occasional lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent standing or walking (26-50% of the day).
