Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, engineering technology, or a closely related field; OR Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college with an Associate's degree in construction technology, mechanical technology, or closely related field and two years (24 months) of full time paid experience surveying, drafting, or related technical work; OR Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four years (48 months) of full time paid experience surveying, drafting, or related technical work. SPECIAL NOTES:Please submit a copy of your transcript and a copy of your relevant certification with your application Must possess a valid NYS Driver's License and must maintain said license for the duration of employment. Degree must have been awarded by a college or university by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the US Department of Education/US Secretary of Education. DUTIES:The work involves responsibility for performing a wide range of technical work including the application of standard engineering principles and practices to a variety of engineering, utilities and Public Works projects and assignments. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Public Works, and the City Engineer with leeway allowed for the use of independent judgment according to established procedures and policies. Supervision is not generally a function of this position. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITES: Illustrative onlyAssists the Commissioner of Public Works in planning new construction projects and other major department activities. Oversees the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, curbs and sidewalks. Oversees the construction, maintenance and repair of the water distribution and the storm and sanitary sewage collection system. Acts as liaison between the City and contractors to insure that contract obligations are met. Prepares estimates, specifications and plans for repairs and alterations to buildings and equipment. Coordinates with the City Engineer and the Assistant City Engineer regarding design and construction of building facilities. Coordinates with the Utilities Department with the inspection and installation of new and existing water lines. Performs construction inspections for sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water, roads and associated utilities for subdivisions, site plan PUC's, and other similar projects including contract administration during the construction phase of the project.
