Position Description J&J Truck Bodies & Trailers is seeking a Field Technician who will be responsible for the replacement, installation, inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of equipment at customer locations. This role is primarily field-based, requiring travel to job sites to diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues. In addition, the technician provides technical support to customers and internal departments via phone, email, and remote troubleshooting tools. The ideal candidate is hands-on, mechanically inclined, customer-focused, and comfortable working both independently in the field and collaboratively with internal teams. A background in welding and fabrication is preferred to support structural and component repairs when necessary. This individual will play a key role in establishing and refining field service processes, service response procedures, and documentation standards. The individual should be comfortable working in an evolving environment and helping shape how the company delivers mobile service support to customers. This position will also provide service and technical assistance to the company's truck equipment locations in Somerset, PA, and Cumberland, MD. Occasional travel to these locations will be required to assist with troubleshooting, complex repairs, training, and service support as needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:Field Service:Travel to customer locations to inspect, diagnose, repair, and replace equipment and systems. Install new equipment, components, and accessories according to manufacturers' and company standards. Perform preventive maintenance and safety inspections. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues. Test equipment operation and verify repairs are complete and function properly. Document work performed, parts used, and service recommendations in service reports. Train customers in proper equipment operation and maintenance. Maintain service vehicle inventory, tools, and diagnostic equipment. Follow all safety procedures and job site requirements. Technical Support:Provide phone and email technical assistance to customers and internal teams. Support technicians and installers with troubleshooting guidance. Assist sales, service advisors, and parts personnel with product and repair knowledge. Help identify recurring issues and recommend process or product improvements. Prepare service documentation, troubleshooting guides, and technical notes. Assist with warranty claims and failure documentation when necessary. Supervisory Responsibilities:This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities; however, the ability to perform fieldwork without direct supervision is a must. Responsible for self and any assigned assistants depending on the scope of work to be performed. Position Requirements Education and Experience:High school diploma or GED required; technical/trade school preferred. 2+ years of experience in equipment service, mechanical repair, automotive, heavy equipment, or related technical field. Welding and fabrication experience is preferred Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to travel locally and occasionally regionally.
