This position provides the senior vision, execution, planning and technical leadership in the utilization of the Amazon Cloud for the Minnesota Department of Health. This position oversees the integration and upgrading of software, life cycle monitoring and server patches in all MDH environments. In this capacity, the incumbent will provide oversight for system integrations, servers and assorted infrastructure within the agency using approved standards, processes, technologies and industry best practices. This position also provides operational support for the application portfolio at MDH. The application portfolio contains 120+ business applications used at Health. This position is a technical authority for infrastructure deployment, management, and troubleshooting. Responsibilities include researching, technical planning, analysis, design, development and implementation of infrastructure within the Amazon cloud environment, coordinating/assuring peer review to assure quality and consistency with department standards and industry best practices and frequent coordination with other IT subject groups such as the security, database, development and messaging teams. This position additionally researches, reviews, recommends, and plans the introduction and integration of new infrastructure technology into MDH's Cloud environments. This position is temporary and includes full state fringe benefits; it is anticipated to last two (2) years. This position requires an employee to be onsite at 625 Robert St. North, St. Paul, Minnesota at least 50% of the time, with some opportunity to perform work from a telework location. Telework for Minnesota IT Services is available on a limited basis. Employees will be required to meet current telework eligibility requirements. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To qualify, candidates must clearly show all of the following qualifications in their resume. Resume tips available here : Position requires a minimum of four (4) years of IT related experience in Operations Environment. Experience must include: Demonstrated experience with AWS Service in a production environment - EC2, ECS, S3, IAM, KMS, WAF Policies. Experience administering Linux server platforms end-to-end, including provisioning, configuration management, performance tuning, incident response, and lifecycle management. Proven ability to plan and execute patching and vulnerability remediation for server and cloud infrastructure, including change coordination, maintenance windows, verification, and rollback planning. Working knowledge of core networking concepts (e.g., LAN/WAN, routing, DNS, firewalls) and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (security, database, application, messaging) to integrate infrastructure services. Experience working with Git version control, managing code repositories, and using industry standard best practices around collaborative development (e.g., branching, merge and pull requests, release tagging). Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a manner that facilitates mutual understanding. Customer-focused approach grounded in active listening, empathy, and solution-oriented problem-solving to deliver positive user experiences. Education in Information Technology (IT) or an IT related field may substitute for experience as follows: a master's degree for eighteen (18) months of experience; a bachelor's degree for one (1) year; and an associate's degree for six (6) months. Preferred Qualifications Experience delivering Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation for cloud resources, including repeatable provisioning, configuration, and environment standardization (e.g., using Terraform/CloudFormation and CI/CD practices). Proficiency with scripting and automation to support operations and reliability (e.g., Python, Bash/PowerShell, Ansible) including developing reusable tooling and improving operational efficiency. Experience implementing observability and operational monitoring, including metrics, logs, and alerting; building dashboards; and supporting troubleshooting through centralized logging and event correlation. Working knowledge of relational database concepts and experience collaborating with DBAs on infrastructure dependencies (e.g., connectivity, performance, backup/restore considerations, and high availability).
