General Job Description Position Overview The Electrical Service Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and quality of electrical installations, repairs, and maintenance on active construction sites and in homes that have already closed and are now occupied by homeowners. This position involves interpreting blueprints, performing field diagnostics, troubleshooting electrical systems, and ensuring strict code compliance. The technician serves as a field representative of IES Residential, working directly on projects while delivering exceptional service and technical expertise to homeowners, builders, and project partners. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential or commercial construction environments, including post-construction service in homeowner-occupied residences. Read and interpret electrical blueprints, construction drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics. Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform field diagnostics using tools such as multimeters and circuit testers. Run conduit and wire per NEC standards (PVC, EMT, MC, Romex, etc.). Mount and install electrical panels, outlets, junction boxes, switches, and fixtures. Perform service calls, repairs, and inspections to resolve electrical issues efficiently and effectively. Coordinate with general contractors, construction managers, and other trades on job site activities. Follow safety protocols and comply with OSHA regulations and local electrical codes. Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working condition. Complete job documentation accurately, including service reports and materials usage. Provide professional and courteous customer service when interacting with homeowners. Minimum Education None Minimum Years of Experience 2-4 Specific Qualifications QualificationsEducation & Experience High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an approved electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent field experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical construction or service work preferred. Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes. Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and work orders. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Customer-focused with a professional demeanor. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods. Capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Travel to various job sites within the designated region may be required. Work Environment This position requires work in both active construction environments and completed residential homes occupied by homeowners. Job sites may include exposure to construction noise, dust, changing weather conditions, and varying site conditions.
