Title: EMG Technician Location: Upper East Side Org Unit: Peripheral Neuropathy Work Days: Monday-Friday Weekly Hours: 35.00 Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: $43.57 - $50.00 As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices Position Summary Under direction, performs high quality electromyographic procedures for nerve conduction studies Job Responsibilities Maintains inventory of supplies, equipment and/or reagents. May order supplies/equipment/reagents as authorized or ensure that needs are escalated appropriately. Receives supply orders and confirms accuracy of delivery. May assist with cost control. Performs quality assurance related activities. Maintains statistics, checks equipment, performs preventative maintenance and initiates calls for equipment service as necessary. Performs standard and advanced nerve conduction studies. Recognizes normal and abnormal results. Recognizes and takes reasonable steps to eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifacts. Explains test procedure to patient and checks the patient's medical chart for orders and special needs, with particular attention to patients with pacemakers and defibrillators. As needed, assists with electrodiagnostic studies by preparing or manipulating instruments and applying surface recording electrodes. Files study recordings in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. May supervise or assist junior staff with laboratory research projects. Assists with answering office phones and scanning medical records into the practice management system. Education High School Diploma Experience Approximately 2 years of work experience as an EMG Technician Knowledge, Skills and Abilities EMG certification is preferred as is experience in a teaching hospital. Traineeship in nerve conduction studies is desired, but not mandatory. Demonstrated knowledge of the peripheral nervous system, diseases related to electrodiagnostic medicine, instrumentation, basic electronics and electrical safety.
