Banquets, Schooners Coastal Kitchen and Bar, Helmsman Lounge, Tidal Coffee, and Room Service provide guests, groups, and local visitors numerous dining options. Vista Blue Spa offers a wide array of services in an outstanding location on the penthouse suite level and hosts the Fitness Center in addition to retail and sundries. Enthusiastically taking care of our guests defines hospitality at our property. We are seeking a Bell Captain to join our team. Role models the Bell Valet department's Standard Operating Procedures according to the Monterey Plaza's service standards. Effectively communicates with staff, managers and guests to ensure expedient service. Practices empowerment to resolve guest challenges. Proactive in increasing the guest service scores for the department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Communication: Responsible for communicating all necessary information to associates and manager in a timely manner. Communicate with manager daily. Monitor Driveway: Ensure guest/luggage transition from drive, to door, to bell desk, to front desk is seamless consistent with Monterey Plaza standards. Special attention to door service and driveway coordination. Maintain Shuttle: Ensure that shuttle procedure is followed including proper scheduling within established service times, safe driving, and professionalism while using vehicles at all times. Perform regular duties of a Bell Valet Attendant as needed. Complete daily checklists including cleanliness of all work areas including: polishing of bell carts, cleanliness of the work area, maintenance of the bell closet, organization and cleanliness of the lobby & plazas, cleanliness of vehicles and removal of trash. Maintain efficient and secure luggage storage procedures. Monitor overall appearance of hotel lobby, driveway, bell storage area and Upper Plaza. Report maintenance concerns. Maintain organization and cleanliness. Based on demand, may move throughout the bell valet desk, lobby parking garage and guest room areas to continuously perform the essential functions of the position. Collects and distributes keys according to established protocol. Moves and parks guest vehicles as required. Follows and adheres to department policies, procedures and standards. Consistently greets guests with a warm and friendly greeting. Offers assistance to all guests who might need it in a warm and friendly manner. Anticipate guests who may be checking in or out. Stores luggage and fills out claim tickets completely. Ensures tickets are appropriately settled to the master account. Shines bell carts whenever working a scheduled shift. Keeps bell closets clean and neat at all times. Takes baggage to and from guest rooms. Delivers messages to guest rooms and meeting rooms. Responds to guest requests for directions and recommendations. Recommends hotel food & beverage outlets and the Vista Blue Spa first. Passes on information to other departments whenever necessary. Drives the hotel van on an as needed basis if registered as an authorized driver under the DMV Pull Notice Program administered by the hotel. Maintains the entire upper lobby in an impeccable manner. Assists Front Desk and Concierge on an as needed basis. Performs other miscellaneous tasks as assigned by management. Assists in controlling arrivals and departures. Ensures driveway is flowing expediently for the quickest and most complete, effective and efficient guest experience while adhering to all hotel and departmental service standards. Completes daily Bell Valet Attendant tasks as outlined in the departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Works cooperatively with Bell Valet Attendants, Parking Coordinators and management to ensure the best possible guest experience. In addition to the essential functions and job tasks outlined above, Bell Valet Attendants, Captains and Coordinators are one of the hotel's most important sales assets. In addition to their recommending hotel outlets to guests, it is by their friendly personality and generous attitude toward providing service that assists in creating an atmosphere of high caliber hospitality that our guests deserve to enjoy. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. High school diploma is preferred. One-year previous Bell/Front Office experience is preferred.
