About the Thomas Jefferson Foundation The Thomas Jefferson Foundation has a twofold mission of preservation and education, and was incorporated in 1923 to preserve Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, in Charlottesville, Virginia. Today, the Foundation seeks to bring history forward into national and global dialogues by engaging audiences with Jefferson's world and ideas, and sharing the history of everyone, enslaved and free, who lived and labored at Monticello. Monticello is recognized as a National Historic Landmark, a United Nations World Heritage Site and a Site of Conscience. Special Events Intern (paid, part-time) Internship length is 10-12 weeks, 20-28 hrs/wk, and typically runs from mid-May through early August (willing to adjust start date as needed to accommodate final exams and graduation). The Thomas Jefferson Foundation's Events Department is seeking an individual who is interested in gaining experience in the field of event planning to assist with the organization and execution of events at Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia. Working alongside a dedicated group of talented planners who manage the logistics and on-site details of signature public events, donor events and private events, the intern will gain experience with events of all sizes and the unique aspects involved in event planning at a historic site. We will look to you to: Work collaboratively across Thomas Jefferson Foundation departments to create meaningful and memorable events and programs for various audiences. A few of the special events include the Juneteenth commemorative events, July 4th Naturalization Ceremony and Celebration, and the Monticello Teachers Institute events. Manage guest lists and stage events. Work with select vendors, such as placing food and beverage orders with local caterers. Lead a project which will focus on the planning and development of one specific event, to include: creating a budget, marketing materials, and a plan for execution. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) required; currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree preferred. Ability to model TJF's customer service standards and expectations. Friendly attitude toward visitors and staff; strong team player. Physical Demands and Work Considerations: Monticello is located on a mountaintop; walking on inclines and uneven ground may be required.
