The Director of Medical Publications in CNS plays a crucial role in shaping the global medical publication strategy for the CNS therapeutic area. This position is vital for ensuring the dissemination of scientific and clinical data through various publication formats, including congress abstracts, posters, and peer-reviewed manuscripts. As the leader of the CNS Medical Communications team, this individual will collaborate closely with Clinical Development, Global Integrated Evidence & Innovation (GIE&I), Medical Strategy, Core Content, and external partners to ensure consistent and high-quality scientific communication. The role reports to the Senior Director of CNS Medical Communications, and is instrumental in advancing Otsuka's mission to deliver impactful, evidence-based science that enhances patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Publications Strategy and Execution: Lead the execution of publication plans for CNS assets, aligning them with medical and communication goals and product lifecycle. Collaborate with Medical Communications and cross-functional teams to define timelines and strategies for data dissemination. Oversee the creation of publication deliverables, ensuring scientific accuracy and compliance with Good Publication Practices (GPP) and company SOPs. Integrate publication insights into broader scientific communication frameworks to ensure cohesion across various medical channels. Potentially manage additional direct reports or a team in the future. Vendor & Budget Management: Manage relationships with publication vendors and medical writing partners for timely and cost-effective deliverables. Oversee the operational management of external agencies, ensuring alignment with scientific standards and compliance. Administer publication budgets, including forecasting and tracking expenditures. Drive continuous process improvements and resource efficiency across publication workflows. Cross-functional Leadership: Work closely with various teams to ensure data readiness and the timely publication of critical clinical results. Act as a publications subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to stakeholders and vendors. Ensure consistency in messaging across medical channels and external communications in partnership with Field Medical and Core content leads. Contribute to integrated medical communication planning to support data dissemination goals. Explore technology and AI for workflow enhancements. Compliance & Quality Oversight: Ensure all publication activities adhere to internal SOPs and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to maintain publication governance and ethical standards. Contribute to maintaining readiness for audits and proper documentation practices. Qualifications: Advanced scientific or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) required. 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Communications, or Publications in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries. Minimum 3-5 years of experience leading publication planning in global or regional settings, ideally in CNS or related areas. Proven experience in managing vendors and medical writing partnerships, including budget oversight. Strong understanding of Good Publication Practices and industry standards.
