Rangers act as the main face of the course from the first tee through the final hole. Maintaining the pace of play keeps everyone happy while they hunt for lost balls in the woods. Genuine kindness makes every interaction better, even during busy afternoons. Helping people find their way or providing water proves we put the player first. Doing the right thing stays the top priority when checking receipts or handling a tough call solo. Staying calm under pressure helps maintain peace and preserve a professional atmosphere on the greens. Heavy bags and muddy cart paths come with the territory, so being prepared for manual work is essential. Serving our local public requires an honest approach and a friendly smile every single day. Must be 16 years old by time of hire The starting hiring rate for this role is $17.00/hour. This is classified as a Seasonal position where the selected candidates' length of employment will not exceed six (6) consecutive months and can work up to 40 hours a week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act. The season is expected to run from April 13th to October 10th. This job announcement is for collecting candidate applications for current and future Golf Shop Outside Service Associates. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and their qualifications match the position's needs. The selected applicant(s) will undergo the following conditions: Background Check (if over 18) Position overview Performs a variety of manual and skilled functions associated with daily golf shop outside services at one of the city owned golf courses. Primary focus of position is making sure all outdoor amenities and services are provided to customers in a professional manner aimed at maximizing the overall customer experience. The Golf Division operates the courses as a division of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES This position involves greeting customers, answering questions, giving directions or any other service that will improve customer satisfaction. Provide excellent customer service while on duty. Assure the proper pace of play during round of golf Assure the Golf Division's policies are being followed. Assist golf shop with messages to golfers Assist golfers in emergency situations Keep peace on golf course between golfers and groups Ensure litter or debris is picked up and golf course is as tidy as possible Assist with providing drinking water if available to golfers Assist golf shop staff with outside services duties when necessary Periodically check restrooms on course and identify problems Communicate with all other staff in maintenance/ outside services and pro shop at all times to issues that need addressing. Starter Duties involve greeting customers at the first tee and providing correct information. Ensure all paperwork is taken care of and ensuring everyone is paid to play with a receipt in hand Assure orderly flow of play in accordance with reserved tee times and that groups hit off at the correct time Regularly communicate with the golf shop staff in regard to problems that may arise and rectify problems in advance Follow the City of Aurora Policy and Procedure manual for operational issues Thorough understanding of the golf operation and all golf shop positions including maintenance and outside services Other duties to be assigned as needed This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Education: No minimum requirement Experience: No minimum requirement Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience as a golf ranger or working in golf course operations is preferred. Customer service experience a plus. Knowledge: Awareness that the customer experience must be the priority if we are to be successful Understanding that as a government employee, it is our job to serve the public Awareness of the importance of treating everyone with equal respect and kindness Awareness of generally accepted cash handling best practices General knowledge of the traditions surrounding the game of golf Skills: Strong interpersonal skills showcased by a genuinely friendly nature (in-person and phone) Servant oriented attitude - desire to help customers feel welcome and appreciated Exhibits a calming influence in conflict situations Knowing when to offer assistance to help with a situation Experienced in traditional computer operations and windows-based programs Abilities: Estabish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of organization Be professional when interacting with fellow-employees and the public Handle sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy Communicate effectively both orally and in writing Know when to call on a supervisor or another more experienced staff member to assist with a situation Creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner Have an open mind and look at situations from multiple perspectives Take direction and sometimes criticism from superiors in a constructive manner Licenses and Certifications Required: Colorado Driver's License (at the discretion of the Supervisor)- within three months of being hired WORKING CONDITIONS Essential Personnel: When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel. Physical Demands: Medium - work that involves lifting/carrying no more than 50 pounds with or without assistance at a time Continuous standing and walking Occasional sitting, pushing, pulling, bending, carrying, stooping Clear vision to read computer monitor and written documents Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens Hand/eye coordination for operation of computer keyboard, golf carts and misc. equipment Work Environment: Works primarily indoors but may work outdoors assisting customers and employees with daily play and/or programming activities in varying weather conditions Equipment Used: Uses standard office equipment including personal computer and common office software such as email, internet, Word, Excel and various golf specific software programs Driving a golf cart will be a frequent requirement of this position. This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment. The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
