Job Description

As a Lead Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in architecting and scaling comprehensive data pipelines on GCP, transforming complex telemetry and enterprise data into high-quality, analytics-ready assets using modern Medallion architectures. You will spearhead the implementation of strong CI/CD workflows, establish rigorous data governance, and enforce security controls while mentoring junior engineers and fostering engineering best practices. By working closely with cross-functional teams and optimizing cloud performance, you will ensure the data platform is secure, cost-effective, and highly available to generate vital business insights. Operational Excellence: Utilize Terraform, Git, and Airflow to ensure a reproducible, secure, and cost-optimized cloud infrastructure. Governance & Quality: Emphasize data lineage, PII protection, and observability to maintain trust in data assets. Collaboration: Serve as a bridge between technical teams (Data Science, Security) and business stakeholders to deliver impactful self-service analytics. Mentorship: Elevate the capabilities of your team through code reviews and setting high documentation standards. Technical Leadership: Design and implement end-to-end ETL/ELT pipelines and migrate assets to centralized platforms such as BigQuery. Key Responsibilities Architect and execute end-to-end data pipelines (ETL/ELT) that ingest, process, and curate large-scale enterprise data, including telemetry and other structured/unstructured sources. Migrate and modernize data assets to a consolidated data platform (e.g., BigQuery) using well-structured data lake/warehouse architectures (Bronze/Silver/Gold or Medallion architecture) to drive analytics and reporting. Design scalable data models and data warehouses while optimizing for performance, maintainability, and cost efficiency. Develop and maintain robust orchestration pipelines with tools like Airflow/Astronomer or Scheduled Queries, utilizing secure and reproducible CI/CD workflows (Terraform + Git). Establish and uphold reliable data quality checks, lineage, and monitoring with tools like Splunk, Looker, Grafana, Tableau, or Power BI dashboards for swift issue detection and resolution. Implement stringent data governance, security, and compliance measures (including data lineage, access controls, and PII/PHI protection) working with security and privacy teams. Lead the creation and delivery of analytics-ready data assets for cross-functional teams, such as dashboards, alerts, and self-service analytics. Mentor and coach junior engineers, review code, and advocate for best practices in data engineering, testing, and documentation. Partner with data scientists, product managers, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable data solutions that yield timely insights. Monitor and manage cloud resource costs and capacity planning; optimize storage and compute usage across GCP services (BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, GCS). Participate in on-call rotations and incident responses to ensure high availability of data services. You'll have... A Master's Degree in Computer Science. Over 7 years of experience in data engineering, data platforms, or a similar field. 4+ years of hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Dataproc; Schedule Query or equivalent scheduling/orchestration) or AWS. 4+ years of proficiency in Python and SQL; extensive experience with PySpark is a plus. 4+ years of expertise in ETL/ELT design, data modeling, data warehousing, and data governance. Even better, you may have... Practical experience in building and maintaining data pipelines with orchestration tools (Airflow/Astronomer; Scheduled Query). Experience with infrastructure-as-code practices and CI/CD methodologies (Terraform, Git, and related tools). Proven ability to design and implement analytics-ready data assets and dashboards; familiarity with BI tools (Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Grafana) for monitoring and reporting. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, analytics, product, security). If you may not meet every requirement or your experience looks a bit different from what we've outlined, but believe you can add value to our team, we encourage you to apply!
