The Director of Medical Publications in the CNS therapeutic area is a pivotal role focused on developing and executing a global publication strategy. This leader will ensure the effective dissemination of critical scientific data through diverse formats, including congress abstracts, posters, and peer-reviewed manuscripts. As the head of the CNS Medical Communications team, this individual will engage with Clinical Development, Global Integrated Evidence & Innovation (GIE&I), Medical Strategy, Core Content, and external collaborators. Your contributions will be essential in advancing Otsuka's mission to provide high-quality, evidence-based solutions that improve patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Publications Strategy and Execution: Lead the execution of publication plans for CNS assets, aligning them with medical and communication objectives throughout the product lifecycle. Collaborate with Medical Communications and cross-functional teams to establish timelines and strategies for effective data dissemination. Oversee the creation of publication materials, ensuring scientific validity and adherence to Good Publication Practices (GPP) and company SOPs. Integrate publication insights into broader scientific communication initiatives, ensuring consistency across various medical channels. Potentially oversee a team or additional direct reports as necessary. Vendor & Budget Management: Foster relationships with publication vendors and medical writing partners to ensure timely and cost-effective deliverables. Manage the operational aspects of external agencies while ensuring scientific quality and compliance. Administer publication budgets, including forecasting and monitoring expenses. Drive continuous improvements for efficiency across publication workflows. Cross-functional Leadership: Collaborate closely with various teams to guarantee data readiness and the timely publication of essential clinical results. Serve as a publications subject matter expert, providing guidance to stakeholders and vendors. Ensure consistency in messaging across medical communications and external outreach in coordination with Field Medical and Core Content leads. Contribute to an integrated medical communication strategy to support effective data dissemination. Explore technology and AI to enhance workflow efficiency. Compliance & Quality Oversight: Ensure all publication activities align with internal SOPs and regulatory standards. Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to uphold publication governance and ethical practices. Assist in audit readiness and maintaining proper documentation. Qualifications: Advanced scientific or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or equivalent) is required. 10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs, Communications, or Publications in pharmaceuticals or biotechnology sectors. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience leading publication strategies in global or regional spheres, preferably within CNS or related fields. Demonstrated experience managing vendors and medical writing partnerships with budget oversight. Solid understanding of Good Publication Practices and industry benchmarks. Skills and Competencies: Strong leadership capabilities and proficiency in presenting to executive teams. Proven ability to manage complex publication strategies cross-functionally. Exceptional project management and organizational skills. Excellent written and verbal communication proficiency with meticulous attention to detail. Minimum salary: $186,489. Maximum salary: $278,875, plus incentive opportunities. Actual pay may vary based on experience and internal comparisons.
