Carter Express/Carter LogisticsJob Description: Diesel Shop Clerk Location: 14000 Alabama Highway 20, Madison, AL 35758 Department: Fleet Maintenance Job Status: Full-Time Reports to: Shop Supervisor POSITION SUMMARY The Diesel Shop Clerk supports daily operations within the diesel maintenance shop by managing parts inventory, processing work orders, maintaining service records, and assisting technicians with administrative and parts-related needs. This role ensures accurate documentation, timely parts procurement, and efficient workflow within the maintenance department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:Process and maintain repair orders, work orders, and service documentation Order, receive, and track diesel parts and shop supplies Maintain accurate parts inventory and conduct cycle counts Enter data into maintenance management systems Verify invoices and reconcile parts receipts Coordinate with vendors for pricing, availability, and returns Assist technicians with parts lookup and availability Maintain organized filing systems (digital and paper) Track warranty parts and documentation Provide administrative support to the Shop Leadership as needed EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED required; additional training or coursework in diesel technology, automotive repair, or business administration is a plus. EXPERIENCE: Experience managing inventory and knowledge of heavy-duty truck and trailer parts is a plus. COMPUTER SKILLS: Must be comfortable using a computer for daily tasks, including entering data, managing emails, working in Excel, and using shop or maintenance software accurately and efficiently. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The position requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods, occasionally lift up to 30 pounds, and regularly walk the shop floor as needed to support daily operations. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Employees must follow all required personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines, including but not limited to wearing a reflective vest, shirt, or jacket and steel-toe shoes. All safety certifications and training requirements established by management must be maintained and kept current.
