About the Role Base, the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain at Coinbase, is on the lookout for a Communications Specialist to spearhead our public relations and communications initiatives. This role will center on promoting Base's mission of bringing a billion people onchain through innovative media strategies, narrative development, and engagement with key stakeholders. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of crypto, demonstrate strong media relations experience, and excel at storytelling within the blockchain space. What you'll be doing: Strategic Communications Leadership: Formulate and implement PR strategies to boost Base's visibility across mainstream, crypto, and international media. Media Relations: Cultivate and sustain strong connections with reporters, editors, and influencers in the blockchain, technology, and business sectors. Proactively pitch stories and manage media inquiries. Messaging and Narrative Development: Create engaging narratives that showcase Base's impact on the onchain economy, featuring stories of success, international growth, and innovative applications. Event Support: Lead PR initiatives for Base’s participation in significant events such as international tours, DevCon, and other industry conferences. Builder/Creator Amplification: Collaborate with Base's ecosystem partners to enhance the visibility of builder success stories through media coverage. Crisis and Issues Management: Manage reactive communications, ensuring clear messaging and risk mitigation. Measurement and Reporting: Monitor earned media coverage, share of voice, and other essential metrics to assess the effectiveness of PR efforts. What we look for in you: Experience: 6+ years in public relations, communications, or related fields, particularly in technology, blockchain, or fintech. Media Savvy: Demonstrated success in securing coverage in top-tier publications (e.g., Bloomberg, CNBC, TechCrunch) and crypto-focused outlets. Crypto Expertise: Strong understanding of blockchain technology, Layer 2 solutions, and the broader cryptocurrency ecosystem. Storytelling Skills: Ability to distill complex technical ideas into engaging narratives for various audiences. Global Perspective: Experience with international media and cross-cultural communications is advantageous. Resilience: Comfortable in a fast-paced environment, available 24/7 when necessary. Nice to haves: Experience with decentralized applications (dApps) or Layer 2 scaling solutions. Established relationships with crypto and tech reporters. Job #: P74976 Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual base salary for this position can range from $140,080 to $164,800 USD. Full time offers from Coinbase also include bonus eligibility, equity eligibility, and comprehensive benefits package.
