Job Description Summary The Registered Nurse serves under the guidance of the Nurse Manager to provide personalized, goal-oriented patient care to families and patients. This position requires skillful application of the nursing process, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective care while collaborating with other healthcare team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Organization Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) Employee Type PRN Employee Cost Center CC001517 LAN - Nursing Administration Compensation Hourly Pay Rate Type Pay Grade Health-27 Weekly Hours 12 hours Work Shift Rotating shifts available Experience Levels TIER III: $42 per hour - Commit to working 4 - 12 hour shifts every 6 weeks TIER IV: $45 per hour - Commit to working 5 - 12 hour shifts every 6 weeks All candidates must possess the competence to work in any of the following areas: Med Surg/Tele Emergency Department Neurology & Critical Care Additional requirements include: Availability to work at least one weekend or night shift every 6-week schedule. Willing to work (or be on-call for) two holidays per year, which includes one major and one minor holiday. Shift availability must be designated at least 14 days prior to assignments. Scheduling Details Per Diem employees will be contacted to cover available shifts after full-time and part-time staff have been scheduled. Hours worked are not guaranteed. Weekend hours are defined as hours from 7:00 PM on Friday to 6:59 AM on Monday; weekday hours are from 7:00 AM Monday to 6:59 PM Friday. Shift Call-Outs and Cancellations Employees must notify their supervisor at least 4 hours before the start of any shift if they are unable to attend. Cancelation notices will be communicated two hours prior to the shift. Even if a call is unanswered, a message will suffice for notice. Per Diem employees may be the first called off if there is overstaffing. Failure to be available or work at least three shifts in any 90-day period will be deemed as voluntary resignation. Compensation Details Compensation is based on the chosen tier; shift differentials do not apply. No additional holiday pay will be granted. Benefits Per Diem employees are not eligible for health, disability, or flexible spending account benefits, nor do they accrue paid time off or holiday benefits. Termination Notice Per Diem employees must provide a minimum 4-week notice before resignation. Requests for tier changes can be made during the Annual Enrollment Period and are subject to manager approval. Per Diem employees in good standing may apply for full-time positions after 6 months of service. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred, unless current MUSC employee. RN staff hired after July 1, 2013, with an Associate or Diploma degree must enroll in a BSN program within two years and secure the degree within four years. Licensure as a registered nurse with the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state is required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is mandatory. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand or sit for extended durations. Manual dexterity for tasks like taking patient vitals and administering injections. Capability to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed. Visual acuity to accurately read charts and monitors. Auditory skills to communicate with patients and identify critical sounds. Physical and emotional stamina for demanding patient care situations. Mobility to navigate various clinical environments. Compliance with infection control protocols.
