Specialist, Safety We are searching for an experienced Specialist, Safety at our Columbus PDC facility. MPA provides after-sales service parts support for Hyundai Motors, Kia Motors, and Genesis. In addition to the distribution of genuine service parts, the MPA Accessories division develops accessories for Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis - which are installed on new vehicles in the United States and Canada. Description The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the Safety and health of all personnel in the facility, including, but not limited to all full time and temporary employes, contractors, vendors, and visitors. This position will also monitor and report assigned maintenance elements of the operation such as preventative maintenance schedules and planned equipment repair as it pertains to any safety concerns, under the direction of the Regional Employee relations & safety Manager and HQ Safety team. The position will communicate the results of the projects and assignments of each Parts Distribution Center to the Headquarters Safety Department and maintain records in the company EHS system. This position will report directly to the Regional Employee Relations & Safety Manager with a dotted line to the Safety Supervisor, and will operate under their guidance and direction. Key Accountabilities Be PDC Safety SME and gatekeeper. Ensure all safety policies and procedures are properly implemented and reinforced consistently as required by the company. Drive Safety elements and initiatives across all personnel, including local management as directed by management and company policy. (25%) Support with the creation, development and implementation of new and/or updated Safety processes and procedures with the guidance, assistance, and direction of the HQ Safety team. Help drive company safety KPI's and ensure training and SOPs are current and reinforced locally according to established guidelines. (25%) Monitor, report, track, and support local management address all safety prevention efforts and maintenance activities within the PDC. Ensure proper actions and maintenance are performed, recorded, reported, and that appropriate countermeasures take place as instructed by management. (20%) Conduct ongoing audits to ensure that compliance documentation is completed accurately and timely as per company policies and procedures. Support and partner with local management team and Human Resources to ensure that identified deficiencies are addressed promptly following established protocols. (20%) Oversee and ensure that key safety elements are implemented within any new processes and ensure that proper job hazard analysis is conducted when necessary under the supervision of the Regional Employee Relations & Safety Manager and in accordance with company procedures. (10%) Key Performance Indicators Ensure timely reporting of all incidents including, but not limited to injuries, illnesses, property damage accidents, and near misses. Ensure the investigation process for all incidents including, but not limited to injuries, illnesses, property damage accidents, and near misses inclusive of assessment of additional training and/ or retraining is properly completed and documented according to company guidelines. Partner with local management team to ensure that all investigations are completed timely and thoroughly according to company and compliance expectations. Ensure completion of weekly safety team meetings, including proper documentation of meeting minutes and ensuring proper follow up to any pending items or safety suggestions or concerns as directed by management. Drive ongoing improvement to ensure safety team responsibilities and proactive participation. Ensure completion of weekly visual and documented inspections inclusive of an effective tracking method to ensure countermeasures are completed timely and ensure regulatory compliance. Partner with local management and HQ safety team to ensure that ongoing analysis of injury causes are being completed in order to address root causes (EX- ensuring pick ready locations, auditing training, proper lifting, etc.) Work with local management team to ensure daily safety awareness meetings take place and ensure consistent communication takes place across all shifts following company communication protocols. Support and work with local management team and HRBP to develop and implement strategies to reduce or eliminate risk as identified by management or company procedures. Promote safety awareness through regular training sessions and by providing informational materials as per MPA provided training materials and policies and procedures. Stay up to date with policies, procedures, training, and SOP updates as necessary and ensure adequate communication takes place so that everyone at the location is aware of the changes as communicated by the company. Ensure timely investigation of any safety concerns or complaints and partner with local management and HRBP as necessary to ensure prompt resolution according to company procedures. Work with local key employees/ management to ensure an effective emergency action plan has been completed and ensure effective implementation including assessment of effectiveness through required emergency drills. Ensure adequate retraining takes place whenever any responsibility or process changes are made. Support with thenew hire safety training process and ensure that it is effective and consistent by validating understanding. Ensure all new employees to the location (Temp and full time) are adequately trained on the safety elements of their job as well as ensure that all employees are trained when assigned a new task or when a process has changed following the company's training program. Responsible for the PIT certification process as well as ensuring ongoing audits are conducted to certified trainers. Monitor trainers to ensure documentation is completed correctly and ensure that they are adequately submitted in company EHS system. Support and ensure monthly safety training is conducted timely as required and directed by the HQ safety department to ensure compliance. Regularly assess work processes and procedures to ensure current training and SOPs are accurate and communicate with HQ safety team whenever a change is necessary for review and approval. Conduct job hazard analysis when any new processes or machinery are introduced under the direction of the Regional Employee Relations & Safety Manager. Ensure ad hoc safety requests such as training, inspections, and communication from GHQ is completed timely. Work with local management team to ensure that there is adequate monitoring and effective processes in place for the handling of events involving severe weather and weather alerts according to company emergency procedures. Work with local management team to ensure proper implementation and engagement of the of safety rewards program. Consistently assess effectiveness of rewards program and provide suggestions as necessary to drive ongoing progress for management consideration. Act as location SME for EHS system and partner with local HRBP to ensure all key employees onsite are trained as necessary on proper way to submit information in the system as well as provide assistance as necessary when submitting information. Act as location SME for all safety training, IIPP, and safety policies and procedures to be able to answer and clarify any questions or concerns in real time by referencing company documents and policies. Monitor and ensure that location is in compliance according to federal, state, local laws and company policies and procedures. Ensure prompt escalation of concerns to HQ safety team as necessary. Assist with any regulatory audits and investigations as directed by the HQ safety team. Ensure action plans are created and managed as necessary to ensure prompt abatement takes place. Partner with local management team and HRBP to ensure that unsafe behavior is addressed and to ensure that proper escalation and enforcement takes place when necessary according to company disciplinary procedures. Ensure proper management of the safety ticket program. Be the main point of contact for all safety initiatives and training including CPR/AED and PIT train the trainer certification process. Monitor the availability and proper use of PPE. Conduct regular assessments to address effectiveness of PPE and communicate need for additional PPE as necessary to management. Ensure all safety records are maintained according to company policies and procedures and conduct ongoing audits to ensure training compliance. Drive continuous engagement and improvement based on inspections, audit findings, incident investigations, and employee feedback under the guidance of management. Build and sustain trust within all levels of the organization. Establish and maintain routine preventative maintenance schedules for all equipment to ensure it is well maintained and safe in the PDC. Ensure relevant preventative maintenance documentation is maintained as required and ensure identified gaps are addressed. Investigate maintenance failures and recommend appropriate changes in PDC methods to management for approval. Work with vendors and Headquarters personnel to develop program improvements and cost efficiencies as directed by management. Provide assistance as necessary with light Human Resources tasks in absence of HR Business Partner as assigned by management. Coordinate administrative activities with the Human resources team as assigned. All other duties as assigned by management. Work Schedule/Travel 8:00 am - 5:00 pm oSchedules are subject to change or may vary based on company needs and PDC schedules. Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%) by land and/or air. Required Qualifications Education Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required. Experience Requirements 2-4 years of experience (Safety Specialist) is required 8+ years' experience (Sr.Safety Specialist ) is preferred. 2-3 years' experience in projectmanagement is required. Basic knowledge of Human Resources is preferred. Experience in warehousing/distribution centerenvironment preferred. Project management,process improvement, and basicmanagement skills. Certifications OSHA 10/ OSHA 30 certification is preferred. Skills Intermediate computer skills including e-mail, Microsoft suite, graphics Ability to use required programs effectively Define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Time management and organizational skills Effective communication and writing skills Ability to work through difficult situations Ability to be Self-driven, self-starter, and be persistent Excellent interpersonal skills Employment Type - Non-Exempt, Hourly Wage Compensation - The expected hiring range for this position is $62,000.00 - 87,000.00, depending on experience and qualifications.
