Senior Complex Casualty Underwriter

Zurich is seeking a seasoned Loss Sensitive/Complex Casualty Underwriter to join our dedicated Complex Casualty Underwriting team. This role is perfect for professionals who thrive in a technical and market-facing environment, particularly with our complex and loss sensitive casualty products. While you will be based out of our Chicago or Overland Park office, we offer flexible hybrid work arrangements. You will collaborate with your manager to create a work schedule that aligns with the needs of our customers, brokers, and agents. Regular visibility in the marketplace is essential for this position, requiring you to meet with agents and brokers as part of your routine. As a key member of our Underwriting team, you will focus on profitable growth and providing exceptional service to our broker partners and customers, with responsibilities that include: Generating, underwriting, and analyzing domestic Complex and Loss Sensitive Casualty business Engaging in market-facing and production activities Ensuring compliance with underwriting rules, insurance laws, and regulations Building and nurturing relationships with agencies and brokers Handling complex assignments within broad limits and authorities This position may be filled at the Senior Underwriter or Underwriting Director level, with the hiring manager determining the appropriate title based on your qualifications and experience. Senior Underwriter Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Underwriting or Brokerage areas, or 10 years in Claims or Underwriting Support Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and at least 3 years in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, or 8 years in Claims or Underwriting Support Proficiency in Microsoft Office Experience meeting time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business Ability to work effectively in a team setting Underwriting Director Qualifications: High School Diploma or Equivalent with at least 7 years’ experience in the Underwriting or Brokerage areas, or 14 years in Claims or Underwriting Support Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an Associate Degree and a minimum of 5 years in the Underwriting or Market Facing area, or 12 years in Claims or Underwriting Support Strong skills in Microsoft Office Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Knowledge of Domestic Complex Casualty Products Strong risk assessment skills Excellent negotiation capabilities Established broker relationships within the region High-level customer service, consistently exceeding expectations Outstanding oral and written communication skills In-depth understanding of underwriting philosophy, techniques, and guidelines Your compensation at Zurich reflects your role, location, skills, and experience. The combined salary range for this position is between $98,500.00 and $215,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Senior Underwriter is $98,500.00 to $165,000.00, while the Underwriting Director range is $130,000.00 to $215,000.00, with short-term incentive eligibility set at 15% and 20%, respectively.
