Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) – Mental Health Payrate: $45-$50 an hrJob Type: Contract (Not PRN)Location: Orient, OH 43146Shift: 6:00 PM – 7:20 AMSchedule: Wednesday, Friday, SaturdayMust be flexible – schedule/days/hours may change based on facility needs.Duration: Contract until position is filled Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with mental health/psychiatric nursing experience to provide professional nursing care within a state-operated corrections or institutional facility in Ohio. This role involves delivering comprehensive care to inmates, juvenile offenders, or consumers housed in a secure facility, including those on the mental health unit. This is a high-responsibility position requiring strong clinical judgment, leadership skills, and the ability to work in a secure environment. Job Duties (In Order of Importance) Duties are illustrative and may include some or all of the following: Clinical Nursing Responsibilities Provide professional nursing care to inmates or institutionalized individualsObserve, assess, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress of patientsMake nursing rounds and record vital signsPrepare and administer prescribed medications, including narcoticsImplement ordered treatment plans and immunizationsMonitor restrained or isolated patients at required intervals (e.g., every 15 minutes)Respond to medical emergencies: Administer first aidArrange transportation to emergency roomContact staff physician as neededCounsel patients regarding medical referrals Corrections Medical Center Responsibilities (If Assigned) Responsible for the health care of 20–60 bedridden inmatesDevelop and implement care plansTeach health care principlesPerform specialized procedures, including: IV therapyChemotherapyWound careOxygen therapyDialysisBlood transfusionsIntubation and CPRTube feedingCatheterizationSuctioningPhlebotomy Leadership & Administrative Responsibilities Organize and oversee “Code Blue” teamDirect hospital aides and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs)Act as lead RN on assigned shift in absence of higher-level nursing staffAssist physicians with diagnostic evaluationsReview care plans written by staffTrain and orient new employeesParticipate in staff development and educationMay schedule, assign, and review work of lower-level staff Documentation & Clerical Duties Chart medications, treatments, and pertinent medical informationComplete incident and accident reportsDocument Medicaid informationOrder supplies and equipmentMaintain accurate inventory of controlled drugs and medical equipmentArrange outpatient clinic appointmentsCoordinate medical exams with physiciansArrange new and refilled prescriptionsServe as liaison within organizationAttend and/or conduct meetingsServe on problem-solving teams Required Qualifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio (per Section 4723.03 of the Ohio Revised Code)Mandatory mental health/psychiatric nursing experienceCurrent BLS/CPR certificationComputer literateAbility to write accurate and concise reportsKnowledge of state and federal nursing regulationsSkilled in use of medical equipment (stethoscope, otoscope, BP cuff, EKG machine)Ability to meet physical demands of position (extensive walking required)Must be flexible with scheduleCandidate must be available to work posted shiftResumes submitted over the maximum budgeted bill rate will be rejected Facility & Security Requirements This is a secure corrections facility.
