Salary : $93,240.00 - $157,560.00 Annually Location : 1801 Glendale Dr. Wilson, NC Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 01145 Department: HEALTH Division: Personal Health Opening Date: 03/02/2026 Closing Date: 3/16/2026 11:59 PM Eastern FLSA: Exempt Description Join Our Team & Serve the Community The Wilson County Health Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Advanced Practice Provider II to join our clinical team. This position plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate healthcare services to the residents of Wilson County. Description of Work Clinic Services: Family Planning: FNP performs appropriate medical screening procedures including a complete medical, social and obstetrical history, a complete physical and pelvic examination. Pelvic examination includes a speculum and bimanual examination. Materials are obtained for STD investigation, cytological smears, wet smears, and virology studies. Based on medical, laboratory findings and physical examination, the FNP implements treatment regimes for patients. This includes but is not limited to foam and condoms, IUD removals, prescribing oral contraceptives, depo-provera injections, vaginal contraceptive film and other specific medications according to policies and protocols. The FNP consults or refers patients with abnormal conditions or other problems to the supervising physician, private physician or E.D. The FNP records findings, recommendations and treatments ordered on the patient's record. The FNP provides counseling, instruction and advice on family planning methods and other medical problems and/or medicine prescribed to the patient. The patient is given an opportunity to ask questions regarding usage of family planning methods or treatment prescribed. I participate in the team approach to patient care, being cognizant of the needs of all disciplines and personnel in the clinic setting. Maternity: FNP functions in the maternity clinic obtaining complete medical, social and obstetrical history. FNP sees patients at regular intervals for routine prenatal care including interim history and physical examination. This includes checking fetal heart tones, fundal height, fetal position, edema, DTR'S and clonus, weight and blood pressure. Pelvic examination is done as needed for wet smears, cytological smears and GC cultures. Laboratory studies which include: urinalysis, hematocrits, rubella titer, type and Rh, anemia workups, sickle cell and other blood tests as indicated. FNP sees high risk patients on each clinic visit: such as multiple pregnancy, gestational diabetics, elevated blood pressure and other medical conditions that need close monitoring. FNP consults and/or refers patients with abnormal conditions to the medical consultant for O.B. The FNP functions in the clinic with other members of the maternal child health team. General Clinic The FNP sees patients presenting with a variety of complaints. FNP sees patients that come in to be evaluated for sexually transmitted diseases, breast masses or other breast problems and those patients needing evaluation for pregnancy. The FNP is also consulted by the clinic nurses regarding patients with hypertension, diabetes, urinary tract infection, upper or lower respiratory infection and other medical problems. Depending on what is required by each patient, I obtain appropriate medical and social histories. Physical examination can include heart and lung exam, ear, nose, throat and abdominal exams. Pelvic exams including speculum and bimanual examination are performed on female patients. Samples are obtained for STD investigation, cytological smears, wet smears, and urology studies. On male patients FNP obtains samples for STD investigation and virology studies if needed. Based on physical and laboratory findings, patients may be referred to private M.D. Treatment is administered according to protocols and policies. Examples of these are Monilia, Trichomonasis, Hemophilus, pediculosis pubic, veneral warts and knows G.C. and chlamydia and syphilis contacts. Supplemental Information Required Minimum Training: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation, four years of Public Health Nursing experience including one year of experience in a supervisory capacity; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing, five years of professional nursing experience, four of which must have been in public health including one year of experience in education and experience and licensed as a Registered Nurse by the N.C. Board of Nursing, graduation from a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the N.C. Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and "approved to practice medical acts" based on education and experience by the Joint Subcommittee, and preferable one year of experience as an extender; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. License of Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Employee is required to maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing. Maintain a current registration with the N.C.
