Senior Project Engineer - Alternative Delivery

RK&K is searching for a skilled Senior Project Engineer to take on a pivotal role in the planning, design, and delivery of various Transportation Projects. In this position, you will collaborate with experienced engineers and project managers on a variety of delivery types including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, P3, and other Alternative Delivery Transportation initiatives. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation of roadway design plans using OpenRoads Designer (ORD) and contributing to technical reports, modeling, and plan production tasks. Fully remote candidates are encouraged to apply, though travel may be necessary based on project requirements. Key Responsibilities Lead or support technical design across a diverse range of alternative delivery transportation projects (e.g., highways, interchanges, tollways, transit corridors). Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to create innovative and cost-effective design solutions. Act as a technical liaison among internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders. Develop and review plans, specifications, cost estimates, and design reports utilizing OpenRoads Designer (ORD). Participate in proposal development, design-build pursuits, and technical presentations. Mentor junior engineers and promote career development within your team. Ensure quality control and compliance with relevant standards and client requirements. Stay updated on industry trends and emerging alternative delivery methods. Required Skills and Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in transportation infrastructure design. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or the ability to obtain one within six months. Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer (ORD) for roadway design and modeling. Experience in Design-Build, P3, CM/GC, or similar alternative delivery projects. Strong communication skills and a collaborative work style with dispersed teams. Preferred Skills and Qualifications Experience engaging directly with contractors on design-build teams. Familiarity with state DOT standards and procedures (experience with multiple state DOTs is a plus). Prior experience leading technical task teams or managing portions of large projects.
