Vice President of Compliance and Model Oversight

Role Summary: Join Synchrony as a Vice President of Compliance and Model Oversight. In this pivotal role, you will lead the charge in strengthening our BSA/AML transaction monitoring and watchlist screening models. Your expertise will be essential in advancing our fight against financial crime while ensuring we adhere to all regulatory requirements. You will manage the full model governance lifecycle, from development to vendor relations, ensuring optimal performance and compliance. Essential Responsibilities: Lead the governance of AML transaction monitoring and watchlist screening models across their lifecycle. Collaborate with vendors and cross-functional teams on diverse model initiatives. Supervise data collection, cleansing, and model assessments while ensuring regulatory compliance. Oversee the ongoing monitoring of models and respond to significant performance changes. Act as the primary point of contact for model-related risks and regulatory matters. Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement: Mentor a team of AML model analysts and foster collaboration across various functions. Establish and nurture relationships with stakeholders in Legal, Data Management, Operations, and with external vendors. Provide regular updates on model performance and risk status to senior leadership and regulatory committees. Model Performance & Improvement: Lead continuous monitoring and enhancement initiatives for models, identifying new risks and performance challenges. Drive improvement efforts for current models using innovative analytics techniques. Vendor Management: Oversee third-party model provider relationships, ensuring thorough onboarding and performance evaluations. Conduct vendor risk assessments to assure model integrity and compliance. Collaborate on service agreements and set performance expectations with vendors. Regulatory Readiness: Maintain meticulous documentation of model governance activities for audit preparedness. Proactively engage with regulators and auditors to confirm our compliance with AML standards. Lead prompt responses to inquiries from regulators and internal stakeholders regarding compliance modeling. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA or MS in relevant fields) with 11+ years of applicable experience. A minimum of 8 years in AML/BSA compliance and model risk management roles. At least 2 years of management experience with a strong foundation in Python, SAS, SQL, and AWS. Ability to travel for business as needed. Desired Characteristics: Strong knowledge of transaction monitoring and watchlist screening models. Exceptional leadership capability to manage teams in a fast-paced environment. Thorough understanding of regulatory frameworks and experience engaging with regulators. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to articulate complex risks clearly. Experience in managing third-party vendors and negotiating contracts. Familiarity with GRC platforms and model risk management software is advantageous. Compensation: The salary range for this role is 155,000.00 - 260,000.00 USD annually, with performance-based bonuses available. Legal and Eligibility Requirements: You must be 18 years or older and possess a high school diploma or its equivalent. Willingness to undergo a drug test, background investigation, and fingerprinting is required. Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is a prerequisite; Visa sponsorship is not available.
