Job Title: Tax Specialist Department/Business Unit: Managed Operations Reports to: Office Supervisor Status: Seasonal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary As a Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for preparing accurate tax returns for individuals and small businesses while delivering outstanding customer service. You will stay abreast of tax regulations and laws to ensure compliance and assist clients in achieving financial success. Responsibilities/Duties Tax Preparation: Prepare individual and small business tax returns with accuracy and efficiency. Review financial records, including income statements and expenditure documentation, to determine necessary forms for tax preparation. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. Customer Service: Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly addressing client concerns and questions. Conduct client interviews to gather necessary information regarding their tax situations. Explain tax return outcomes and provide valuable tax planning advice. Compliance and Accuracy: Stay updated on current tax laws and regulations through continuous education and training. Verify that all tax returns are prepared in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Ensure the accuracy of data entered into tax software. Documentation and Recordkeeping: Maintain organized and accurate records of client interactions and tax returns. Ensure all required documents are filed securely and correctly. Keep client files up to date and follow up on missing information. Training and Development: Participate in training sessions and ongoing education to maintain professional credentials. Stay informed about changes in tax laws and updates to tax software. Collaboration: Work effectively with fellow tax professionals and office staff to optimize workflow. Assist in mentoring and training junior staff members as needed. Support marketing initiatives where applicable. Qualifications Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations. Proficiency in tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Robust analytical and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written. Able to work independently while managing multiple priorities. Possess a PTIN or be eligible to obtain one. Education and Experience Associate's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or equivalent experience. Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in tax preparation. Physical Requirements The position requires extended periods of work at a desk. Some overtime and weekend work may be necessary, particularly during tax season.
