Job Description Join OCI's Edge Security team as a Lead Engineer and be at the forefront of building advanced, cloud-scale DDoS protection solutions. You will play a key role in designing and delivering high-performance systems that detect and mitigate DDoS threats, ensuring exceptional operational excellence and automation. Your expertise will guide the technical direction for DDoS capabilities that serve customers globally. What you'll do Architect and deliver low-latency backend services focused on DDoS detection, classification, and mitigation. Define and enhance scalable data/control planes with a strong emphasis on fault isolation, resiliency, and compliance. Develop and manage traffic engineering strategies in coordination with networking, DNS, and edge platform teams. Establish operational standards including SLOs/SLAs, incident response protocols, and post-incident evaluation processes. Promote automation across the development lifecycle through CI/CD practices, comprehensive testing frameworks, and infrastructure-as-code initiatives. Implement robust observability measures that offer insights into metrics, logs, and traces while ensuring high availability and throughput. Lead initiatives for threat modeling and security reviews, ensuring security is integrated into every aspect of service design and operation. Mentor less experienced engineers, guide cross-organizational roadmap strategies, and collaborate with Product, SRE, and Network Engineering from initial concept to general availability. Basic qualifications 7-10 years of experience in building production backend systems, including 3-5 years in high-scale and/or low-latency environments. Proficiency in programming languages like Java, Python, C++, Rust, or Go, with a strong preference for Java. Expertise in systems design, including concurrency, memory management, performance optimization, and distributed systems fundamentals. Experience leading DevOps practices at scale including CI/CD, automated testing, and configuration management. Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and solid understanding of cloud infrastructure. Experience in DDoS or network security services and familiarity with common attack and defense patterns. Advanced networking knowledge covering TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, BGP, and DNS fundamentals. Demonstrated ability in operational excellence, focusing on observability practices such as metrics and alerting. Preferred qualifications Expertise in anycast routing, global traffic management, and readiness for multi-region services. Experience with Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and programmable data planes. Experience in designing high-rate telemetry pipelines for near-real-time analytics. Background in resilience engineering, chaos testing, and effective disaster recovery strategies. Familiarity with containerization technologies like Kubernetes and secure service-to-service communication approaches. Understanding of zero trust architectures and modern security frameworks; experience with compliance standards. How you'll make an impact Contribute to the core DDoS detection and mitigation services that safeguard OCI's availability and bolster customer trust. Launch innovative customer-facing DDoS solutions complete with self-service capabilities and strong security defaults. Elevate engineering quality, automation, and compliance practices across the board, while mentoring team members to enhance their skills.
