Job Title: Senior Commissioning Manager FLSA Status: Exempt Summary The Senior Commissioning Manager is essential in delivering high-impact utility-scale solar infrastructure projects. In this key leadership role, you will spearhead, plan, and ensure flawless execution of all commissioning and energization activities, confirming that systems are installed, tested, and energized in alignment with engineering intent, codes, and project timelines. You will act as the main coordinator among various teams, ensuring a smooth transition from pre-commissioning to energization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead and oversee commissioning and energization processes across multiple solar projects. Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive commissioning plans, testing procedures, and energization strategies. Guide pre-commissioning, functional testing, system integration testing, and energization activities from start to finish. Establish and enforce standardized commissioning protocols and effective documentation workflows. Manage switching, breaker operations, and energization procedures, including grid interconnections. Validate electrical component installations and compliance with project requirements. Efficiently coordinate and troubleshoot functional performance testing (FPT) activities. Supervise third-party commissioning vendors and specialized testing services to maintain project quality. Support commissioning engineers, technicians, and trade partners during field operations. Review and track commissioning documentation, addressing deficiencies to ensure full compliance. Serve as the primary liaison with the Commissioning Authority, Owners, utility companies, and client representatives. Facilitate system inspections, resolve punch lists, and manage final turnover documentation. Monitor commissioning schedules, resource allocation, and project expenditures to meet deadlines. Effectively address complex commissioning challenges and energization risks. Promote a strong culture of safety, ensuring operations align with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and site-specific safety guidelines. Provide regular updates regarding project progress to management and relevant stakeholders. Encourage continuous improvement by documenting lessons learned and refining commissioning methods. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of commissioning processes for solar projects, particularly electrical system testing and startup. Comprehensive knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE standards, and electrical interconnection requirements. Proficient in reading and interpreting one-line diagrams, schematics, and electrical documentation. Skilled in managing high, medium, low voltage, and DC electrical systems. Effective at project planning, scheduling, and risk management. Adept at coordinating cross-functional teams, including construction and engineering personnel. Strong leadership skills with a focus on mentoring and developing the commissioning team. Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office and familiar with construction documentation software. Ability to maintain professionalism in high-pressure situations. Willingness to travel to job sites as necessary. Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered. 8-10 years of experience in electrical construction, commissioning, or EPC operations, ideally within utility-scale solar projects. 3-5 years of supervisory or managerial experience leading commissioning teams. Demonstrable experience with energization, grid interconnections, and system testing. Experience with solar, BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems), or wind projects is preferred. NFPA 70E training and OSHA 30 certification are mandatory. Openness to obtaining additional licenses or certifications as required.
