Patient Care Technician (PCT) - Same Day Surgery Location: Mercy Hospital & Mercy Pavilion Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8- or 10-hour shifts Start Times: 4:30 AM, 5:00 AM, 5:30 AM, 6:00 AM, 7:00 AM, 7:30 AM, 8:00 AM Availability: Must be available for all listed start times Perks No nights, weekends, holidays, or evenings Weekday-only schedule Cross-training in Outpatient Testing Lab Responsibilities Take vitals and weights Prep, escort, and transport patients pre- and post-op Insert/remove IVs and perform phlebotomy Assist with ADLs, mobility, and patient care Turn over rooms, stock supplies, and assist nursing staff Requirements IV insertion and phlebotomy experience Flexibility with early morning start times Strong teamwork and patient-care skills Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Must meet one of the following: A. Two (2) years of general healthcare experience and meet requirements for the Patient Care Technician - Senior title, or B. One (1) year of general healthcare experience and current enrollment in a PT, OT, or PA program, with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or C. One (1) year of general healthcare experience and completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field. Training & Professional Requirements Annual completion of a professional contribution (to be determined after hire). Successful completion of the Patient Care Technician Specialist class. Successful completion of eRecord training. May require successful completion of the appropriate UPMC cardiac rhythm course, as determined by organizational guidelines and unit-based clinical operations. Preferred Qualifications Nursing student who has completed at least one clinical rotation. Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification. Current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of hire, based on American Heart Association (AHA) standards, including both didactic and skills demonstration components.
