This paid professional development program provides students with hands-on experience supporting the City's Choose Hampton campaign and broader community engagement initiatives. Interns will work alongside experienced professionals to help promote City services, events, and strategic initiatives through coordinated marketing and outreach efforts. The Marketing & Outreach Intern will contribute to content creation, campaign support, and public engagement strategies that strengthen the City's brand and connect residents, businesses, and visitors to Hampton's opportunities. Internship Program Overview Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Program Duration: June 1, 2026 - August 7, 2026 Rate of Pay: Undergraduate students - Grade 307 ($16.48/hr) Graduate students- Grade 316 ($20.89/ hr) FLSA: Internships are seasonal and non-exempt positions. Summer interns will be scheduled to work up to forty (40) hours in an administrative work week and are ineligible for overtime compensation. As a Marketing & Communications Intern, you will gain practical experience in: Marketing and public-sector communications strategy Social media planning, content development, and analytics Project and task management within a collaborative team environment Entry-level graphic design and visual content development By the conclusion of the internship, the intern will have contributed to active marketing initiatives and developed foundational skills applicable to careers in marketing, communications, public relations, and community engagement. Department Final Project: Interns will work on a department-specific project designed to improve or enhance a City service. This project will be presented at a culminating ceremony attended by City leaders, highlighting the intern's contributions and insights gained throughout the program. Eligibility and Application Requirements Applicants must be currently enrolled as a rising senior (completed junior year), Recent Graduate (2025 or 2026 undergraduate) or Graduate Student (completed as least 1 semester of grad school) pursuing a degree in Marketing & Communications / Planning or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Candidates must be in good academic standing. College Transcripts: Must submit undergraduate and/or graduate transcripts as applicable.Current or most recent GPA must be 3.0 or higher. Cover Letter: Applicants must submit a cover letter expressing how their education and experience aligns with this internship and what they hope to gain from the experience. The cover letter is required as a supplement to this application, and should be in Microsoft Word format, not exceeding one page. References: Two (2) references - one of which must be from a current or former professor/advisor are required as part of this application.
