The U.S. Border Patrol (USBP), under U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), is actively seeking full-time entry-level Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) positions that provide job security and attractive benefits! Salary and Benefits Your annual base salary as a new Border Patrol Agent will range from: GL-5/GL-7: $49,739 - $89,518 per year Salary may vary depending on duty location due to higher locality pay for federal law enforcement in select areas. Eligible Border Patrol Agents may also receive up to an additional 25% compensation based on the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This is a career ladder position with automatic promotions every 52 weeks, advancing through GL-5, GL-7, GL-9, GS-11, and GS-12. Recruitment Incentive Newly appointed Border Patrol Agents are eligible for up to $20,000 in recruitment bonuses: $10,000 upon completing the Border Patrol Academy and an additional $10,000 for accepting a prioritized location. Retention Incentive Agents can qualify for up to $40,000 in retention bonuses over their first four years of service. Duties and Responsibilities As a Border Patrol Agent, your role is crucial in deterring illegal activities. Typical tasks include: Monitoring individuals suspected of violating immigration laws and inspecting their documents. Preventing unauthorized entry and apprehending smugglers through surveillance and covert operations. Interpreting physical evidence related to illegal entries. Conducting patrols, including traffic checks and city patrols. Utilizing various governmental assets such as vehicles and ATVs to patrol international and coastal areas. Qualifications To qualify for the GL-5 level: One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making skills and stress management, or A bachelor's degree, or A combination of relevant experience and education. To qualify for the GL-7 level: One year of specialized experience showcasing law enforcement skills and decision-making involving firearms, or A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement, or A combination of experience and education. Additional Requirements Candidates must be U.S. citizens, have primarily resided in the U.S. for three of the past five years, and be under the age of 40 at selection unless exempted by prior federal law enforcement service. You will undergo formal training at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico, enhancing your knowledge of immigration laws, law enforcement techniques, physical fitness, and firearms.
