Lifeguard Instructor The City of Carson is now accepting applications for Lifeguard Instructor positions. This recruitment will remain open until vacancies are filled and may close without notice. As a Lifeguard with the Community Services / Recreation / Park Maintenance Department, you will serve as a trusted guardian of our aquatic facilities, ensuring the highest standards of safety while fostering a welcoming atmosphere for swimmers of all ages. This role demands vigilance, teamwork, and leadership, offering you the opportunity to build confidence, sharpen critical skills, and play a vital role in keeping our community safe and active. These positions are part-time/temporary, at-will (FLSA: Non-Exempt) positions that are limited to a maximum of 960 hours per fiscal year. Part-time employees are not typically eligible for benefits; however, they may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions. Job Summary: Under general supervision, supervises and teaches aquatic activities at a community swimming pool; and performs related duties as required. Essential Duties Enforces established rules and regulations governing the safe use of pools. Monitors the swimming pool and surrounding area in order to prevent emergencies. Rescues bathers as necessary. Renders CPR and first aid as needed. Maintains and cleans the pool and surrounding area. Prepares reports of rescues or unusual occurrences. Interprets current policies and procedures to the public. Qualifications A typical way to obtain the requisite qualifications to perform the duties of this class is as follows: Education and Experience: Completion of formal education sufficient to assure the ability to read and write at the level required for successful job performance. Knowledge of CPR, and first aid. Skills and Ability to: Monitor pool and deck area. Enforce water safety rules and regulations. Perform rescues and render first aid and CPR as necessary. Effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. License and Certificates: Possession of an American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and Standard First Aid certificate. Possession of an American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certificate. Working Conditions The Lifeguard will generally work at the City of Carson's swimming pool. Recruitment Process: This recruitment will remain open on a continuous basis until all positions are filled. To be considered, please submit an online application. The most qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process, which will include the following components: Supplemental Questionnaire, no weight SME review, no weight Selection Interview, weighted at 100%. Supplemental questionnaires are used to evaluate applicant's indicated abilities with the ideal candidate profile. The Human Resources Department reserves the right to invite those amongst the highest scoring to the next phase of the recruitment.
