Sweeper Operator II (Public Facilities) Responsible for the safe and effective operation of heavy equipment used in public spaces, facility parking areas, streets, bus and rail lanes, and gutter cleaning. Work is performed with considerable independence under general supervision and is reviewed for results produced. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures. Responsibilities and specific duties include: Operating a motorized sweeper vehicle on assigned routes and schedules. Maintaining accurate daily records of all work performed, to include road hazards such as abandoned vehicles, tree clearances, and pavement conditions which may have impeded sweeping operations. Maneuver the sweeper along the street near the curb to clean streets and gutters, operate controls to activate brushes and water spray for the removal of dust and pick up of litter, refill machine water tank as necessary. Perform general equipment servicing, clean motor sweeper; check for broom and regenerative blower system; report mechanical or other equipment problems; check and fill oil, water, and fuel. Check tires, lights, reflectors, mirrors, radio, and gauges on the sweeper before operation; fill water tank. Make minor adjustments to the sweeper on the route; report damage requiring extensive or complex adjustments or repairs; wash and clean sweeper at end of shift. Report mileage, water source/consumption, number/location of dumps and other operational details. Clean and pressure wash rail platforms and stations, shelters, park and ride platforms, transit center platforms and bus stops. Maintain, clean and remove trash, graffiti, human waste and dead animals from rail platforms and stations, shelters, park and rides, transit centers and bus stops. Perform flagging duties along METRO Rail system to ensure safe train movement. Provide excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. Apply SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and support all aspects of the agency's Public Agency Safety Plan (PTASP). Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents. Perform other job-related duties as required. Pay rate: $20.28 Education requirement: High school diploma or GED is required. Years and experience required: Minimum three (3) years' experience in heavy equipment in the construction industry or other related field. Will also accept any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job. Knowledge and skills required: Requires a Texas CDL Class B Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement and must meet METRO's requirements regarding motor vehicle records. Good verbal/written communication skills. Must be able to complete/fill-out written reports, records and forms. Ability to operate any METRO support equipment.
