Position OverviewThe Paralegal provides legal support to attorneys in a fast-paced civil litigation environment, with particular focus on employment law matters. This role combines fact gathering, legal research, discovery management, case management, and trial preparation. This is position requires at least 2 years of civil litigation experience in California.This position requires working under the supervision of a California-licensed attorney in accordance with California Business and Professions Code Section 6450 et seq. The paralegal may not provide legal advice, represent clients in court, set legal fees, or accept cases.Primary ResponsibilitiesFact Gathering & InvestigationConduct interviews and gather information and documents from clients, witnesses, and other parties in employment and civil litigation mattersReview and analyze employment records, policies, and documentation for case-relevant informationPrepare detailed investigative summaries and fact chronologiesIdentify key facts and potential evidence in employment disputes and other civil mattersDiscovery ManagementDraft and support attorneys with discovery including document requests, interrogatories, requests for admission, and form interrogatories under California Code of Civil ProcedureOrganize and review discovery materials withBates stamping and privilege loggingMaintain discovery tracking systems and response deadlinesCoordinate with clients for document collection and reviewPrepare meet and confer correspondence regarding discovery disputesLegal Calendaring & Case ManagementWith support from the administrative team, manage litigation calendars including court deadlines, discovery cutoffs, and hearing dates for matters and arbitration proceedingsTrack critical dates from court orders, case management orders, and scheduling ordersUpdate case management systems with deadlines and case developmentsCoordinate deposition scheduling and logisticsAssist with mediation scheduling and logisticsMonitor compliance with California Civil Procedure deadlines and Los Angeles Superior Court local rules Document Preparation & SupportSupport attorneys with legal research on employment law and civil litigation issues and draft legal documentsPrepare court filings in compliance with California Rules of Court and Los Angeles Superior Court local rulesE-file documents through the California Courts E-Filing PortalPrepare correspondence and discovery-related documentsMaintain organized case files (physical and electronic) and handle client communicationsAssist with preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trialsDraft trial preparation documents including witness lists, exhibit lists, and trial bindersRequired QualificationsEssential RequirementsMinimum 2+ years of civil litigation paralegal experience in CaliforniaDemonstrated knowledge of California Code of Civil Procedure and Rules of CourtExperience with Los Angeles Superior Court procedures and local rulesStrong analytical skills with ability to conduct comprehensive legal researchExcellent attention to detail and organizational abilitiesProfessional written and verbal communication skillsAbility to interact with clients with empathy and professionalismAbility to manage competing deadlines effectivelyAbility to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive informationProblem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervisionStrong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe AcrobatExperience with legal software including case management systems, e-filing platforms, and discovery tools (MyCase, Dropbox, OneLegal, etc.)Preferred QualificationsAssociate's degree or Paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program or completion of paralegal studies at an accredited institution preferred; equivalent experience may be substituted for formal education for highly qualified candidatesEmployment law experienceSpanish language proficiency (bilingual strongly preferred)Experience with California labor and employment statutes (FEHA, Labor Code, wage and hour laws)Familiarity with federal employment laws (Title VII, ADA, FMLA)Experience with e-discovery platformsAdditional RequirementsProfessional references requiredAuthorization to work in the United StatesCompensation & BenefitsCompensation$31 - $36 per hour (full-time position) commensurate with experienceBenefits PackageBenefits are available after a 90-day introductory period and include:Health, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with employer match (3-5%) (after 1 year)Paid vacation plus sick timePaid holidaysParking stipend or transit reimbursementIndustry perks including concert tickets and access to other events, as availableAuxiliary benefits (Colonial Life) availableCalifornia-mandated benefits including paid sick leave are provided from date of hire in accordance with state law.Work EnvironmentFull-time, in-office position based in Los Angeles, California.
